Character/Prop Colour & Cleanup Artist

WildBrain Studios is looking for an experienced Character/Prop Colour & Cleanup Artist to join our team! You may have known us as DHX Media – we’ve recently changed our name to reflect our renewed commitment to pushing the creative and focusing on the artist experience. The role:

If you have a solid understanding of colour theory and a talent for translating initial rough sketches into digital, fine line drawings, we want to hear from you! The Colour & Cleanup Artist is responsible for choosing the colour palette for the character and/or prop designs to compement the overall ambience of the production.

You will get to:

  • Create clean line work for 2D animation using the initial rough character and prop designs
  • Implement colour schemes for the Character and/or Prop designs, utilizing a strong sense of how colours complement one another for the requested costumes, mood, setting, time of day, etc.
  • Submit multiple design variations and revisions based on feedback from the Art Director
  • Ensure consistency and quality throughout your work
  • Complete other design-related tasks and responsibilities as required for completion of the project

Specific skills we’d love to see…

  • Previous experience in design/color/cleanup for a 2D series is preferred
  • Proficiency in Photoshop
  • Toon Boom knowledge is an asset
  • Demonstrated understanding of colour theory, human and creature proportions, shape, silhouette, angles and spacing in your portfolio
  • Strong drawing ability and a solid sense of design for 2D animation
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to adapt to multiple production styles
  • Degree/Diploma from a recognized animation school desired
