FX Supervisor, 3D

WildBrain Studios is looking for an experienced FX Supervisor to join our team! You may have known us as DHX Media – we’ve recently changed our name to reflect our renewed commitment to pushing the creative and focusing on the artist experience. The role:

As a FX Supervisor, you will be the creative and technical eye of the show, reviewing and supporting lighting, FX and compositing stages of the production. You will work closely with the Director and Art Director to achieve the look of the show. The ideal candidate is an experienced artist with a creative eye and the ability to guide and support their team.

You will get to:

  • Work closely with Director and Art-Director to create the visual level of the show
  • Work closely with CG Supervisor and Show TD to identify and solve technical issues that arise
  • Identify, communicate and implement the FX needs of the production
  • Manage and support the FX team (Lighting, FX and Comp) throughout the show
  • Review and critique the FX team via dailies or weeklies
  • Mentor and guide the FX team
  • Collaborate with pipeline to improve FX process and workflow
  • Provide bid times for all FX tasks series wide
  • Ensure complete and seamless integration of all FX assets within the pipeline
  • Take responsibility for all task assignments to FX team
  • Review all submitted FX for approval in dailies
  • Create and maintain FX wiki
  • Ensure that all production deadlines are met while meeting quality standards
  • Be part of the recruiting process by assisting the HR department with the development of job descriptions, as well as sourcing and selecting candidates

You will be a great fit on our team if you have…

  • 5+ years of experience in animation or film industry
  • 1+ years as a Lead FX Artist
  • Proficiency in Maya’s particle and fluid systems is a must
  • Proficiency in Nuke is a must
  • Proficiency in Shotgun is a must
  • Ability to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently
  • Ability to work alone and collaboratively, often with multiple tasks and under deadline pressure
  • Encouraging of feedback and new initiatives

Specific skills we’d love to see…

  • Python scriptiong is a plus
  • Proficiency in Phoenix FD for Maya and Bifrost is a plus
  • Experience with VRay is a plus
