Systems and Network Supervisor

USC’s School of Cinematic Arts is seeking a Systems and Network Supervisor to join its team.  USC's School of Cinematic Arts is considered one of the premier film schools in the country and works on the cutting edge of technology in media production and post-production.

The Systems and Network Supervisor oversees staff who provide computer hardware, software and network support to faculty, students, and staff.  The Systems and Network Supervisor also installs, maintains and manages the school's internal, high-speed, “creative” network and related servers in this ever-changing environment of post-production, animation, and media creation. This position supports other technical personnel in the school with complex network and systems needs. This position also supports ongoing network research, special projects, and maintains classroom computers used by various divisions in the school.

Proven ability as senior systems administrator, track record as project lead and supervisor of a systems team is required for this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages computer network and support activities covering consulting, planning, and end user training.
  • Directly supervises all assigned subordinate staff. Recruits, screens, hires, and trains staff, as needed.
  • Manages budget and reconciles account as assigned. Purchases necessary equipment and materials.
  • Provides top-tier technical support on servers, networking, and computing resources school-wide. Resolves most complex technical support issues. Responsible for high-level systems installation and integration in all SCA environments.
  • Manages software inventory and database for Creative Computing. Maintains licenses for software products used in SCA. May also manage hardware inventory.
  • Installs, maintains, and manages servers used on internal “creative” network of school. Creates and manages user logins on servers as needed. Works with various divisions, assessing user needs, providing appropriate resources on network. Works with USC central IT Services, as needed.
  • Manages network storage associated with servers for school.
  • Responsible for imaging of school’s classroom and lab computers. Annually updates systems. Instructs faculty and staff in their use. Troubleshoots and supports systems as needed. Installs, tests, and maintains computer hardware and software.
  • Oversees and maintains network security, including related firewall systems.
  • Provides expertise on use of high-end server and networking technology in media production and post-production.

 

Job Specific information

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.

Specialized/technical training with 2 years experience in computer and networking support. Working knowledge of software applications and of network software and hardware, especially those specific or unique to media content creation and distribution.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in math or computer science plus 10 years directly related work experience. Thorough knowledge of network software and hardware. Proven track record and experience in project management and team supervision.

Significant experience in server and workstation systems, including Windows, OS X, and Linux. Additional experience with directory services: LDAP, Active Directory, Open Directory, VM Ware.

Significant experience in media production/post production/animation/visual effects/interactive media is highly desirable.
