Lecturer in Digital Design
The J. Robert and Barbara A. Hillier College of Architecture and Design at the
New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) invites applications for a teaching
position in Digital Design at the rank of University Lecturer or Senior
University Lecturer. This is a full-time, non-tenure track appointment that
emphasizes teaching and service toward program development within the School of
Art + Design at the College.
The Hillier College at NJIT benefits from a particular set of circumstances
that offer faculty and students exciting opportunities for teaching and
learning, research, and service. It has graduate and undergraduate programs in
architecture, planning, interior, industrial, and digital design, and faculty
members from similarly diverse fields. It is one of six colleges and schools in
a public polytechnic university that attracts a diversity of students and that
encourages collaboration across disciplines. It is located in Newark, NJ, in
proximity to New York and to many other urban communities in New Jersey and the
larger metropolitan area.
The successful applicant will have an established record of teaching excellence
and professional experience in a broad range of digital design practice areas
(e.g. animation, game design, visualization, effects) with demonstrated
leadership abilities. Candidates must be able to teach in design studio as well
as teach a subset of required and elective courses such as those dealing with
3D modeling and visualization, animation, game design, compositing, motion capture,
web design, VFX, and/or character design/modeling/rigging, etc. It is also
expected that the candidate may teach in the core/foundation program. The
successful applicant will have opportunities and expectations to offer elective
courses in related areas of interest and to develop new courses as appropriate.
Lecturers are expected to fully participate in the life of the school which may
include serving on committees, helping prepare for accreditation visits and
evaluations, and recruit students (including participation in on-campus weekend
Open House recruiting events).
The position offers collaborative opportunities with the Industrial Design,
Interior Design, and Architecture programs within the College and seeks
candidates who will play an integral role in program development and
accreditation activities.
The successful candidate will have an earned MFA degree within two years of the
start of the appointment. Active participation in professional organizations
(e.g. ACM/SIGGRAPH is encouraged). At the discretion of NJIT, an earned
terminal degree in a related field with relevant professional experience may be
accepted in lieu of the MFA.
