The role:

WildBrain Studios – Vancouver is seeking an Unreal Software Development Supervisor to join an exciting new project which will advance technologies with the Unreal Game Engine and our episodic animation pipeline. WildBrain Studios (formerly known as DHX Media) is an 800-person animation studio in Vancouver, B.C.  – we offer excellent benefits and an amazing work environment. And we’re dog friendly! You will get to: 

  • Work with Pipeline Team to ensure tools and processes meet the global pipeline direction
  • Work closely with Producer and CG Supervisor to create bespoke pipeline tools for production use
  • Work in blueprints to program actions/animations in Unreal Engine 4
  • Building scalable Blueprint templates within Unreal Engine
  • Writing C++ and Python and effectively managing code versioning and documentation
  • Help develop and implement new production pipeline tools based on game engine technology
  • Design and develop core pipeline tools and processes to meet production needs
  • Create and update documentation explaining our processes and tools
  • Support and debug tools and processes to ensure stability and usability
  • Stay current with new technologies and push the creative and technological bar.
  • Mentor other members of the pipeline and advanced technology teams
  • Actively participate in production-related meetings by offering thoughts and ideas
  • Be a positive and creative force on the team
  • Be proactive, forward thinking and collaborative with others

You will be a great fit on our team if you have… 

  • 4+ years of experience with developing tools for Unreal Engine
  • Previous experience working with Blueprints and C++ in Unreal Engine required
  • Experience coding in Python
  • Experience with Maya
  • A working knowledge of JScript or other object-oriented programming language
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and communication skills
  • Experience with leading people and projects
  • A detail-oriented mindset with a strong ability to multitask
  • Proficiency in application of 3D math and computer graphics an asset
  • Familiarity using version control (Perforce or Git)
  • An advanced knowledge of networking and performance issues that arise with automated tools
  • Experience with performance capture data and workflows a plus

Specific skills we’d love to see…

  • Experience in Cinematics or an understanding of the episodic animation production process, including modeling, texturing, animation, rendering, compositing and FX creation
  • Experience developing for Nuke and Shotgun is a plus
  • Experience with Qt is a plus
  • Knowledge of Agile Development Methodology (scrum) is a plus

Education

  • Bachelor/Diploma in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or other related discipline
