MSG is looking for a Manager of Capture Systems Engineer to join a groundbreaking advanced camera and immersive capture department based in Los Angeles. We are forging a new category of motion picture imaging, advanced entertainment, and experiential storytelling, which is redefining the future of entertainment. As the content delivery team for the MSG Sphere, we are creating world-class content at an unprecedented scale for the largest LED screens ever made.

This role will be responsible for building, optimizing, and maintaining Sphere custom camera systems, arrays, and other on-set hardware, as well as organizing and driving test shoots and technical experimentation. This role will work closely with external and internal camera engineers, fabricators, technologists, freighting companies, and other internal and external stakeholders to assure smooth, rapid, and repeatable deployment for Sphere image making.

Specific Functions/Activities

  • Supporting the Senior Director Camera & Capture and SVP Capture Systems and Innovation in executing Sphere capture strategy and imaging roadmaps.
  • Oversee and managing the Capture Workshop space, equipment, inventory, and manage use of equipment, serial numbers
  • Organize, schedule, and coordinate pick up and return of rental products for external and internal needs
  • Maintain, manage, and troubleshoot Sphere capture tools. and addressing equipment, damage, and service issues. Serve as an available resource to internal and external Sphere camera department members for field troubleshooting or remote diagnosis
  • Onboard new camera teams and members and providing technical training for colleagues and relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in film, electrical engineering, or equivalent
  • 7+ years’ experience cinema production, VR/AR/XR production and/or camera service
  • Able to speak confidently and engage comfortably with experienced filmmakers
  • Comfortable with electrical engineering, electronics, and technical repair
  • Clear understanding of how to apply legacy products to a groundbreaking new purpose
  • Be a proactive, self-starter, able to anticipate needs in order to identify future potential issues
  • Work competently under pressure
  • Excellent critical thinking, organization skills, attention to detail
  • Capable of working within complicated teams to solve a diverse array of issues
