Professor of Visual Effects

Description

SCAD seeks a full-time Professor of Visual Effects to join the university’s School of Digital Media at its Atlanta location.

Visual effects artists are masters of illusion, creating believable images that are impossible or impractical to shoot in the real world. In this role, you will help talented students turn their own dreams into reality. You will demonstrate expert proficiency in digital materials and textures, digital lighting and rendering and compositing for technical direction, as well as a working familiarity with current tools and techniques of the visual effects industry. In addition to other duties and responsibilities required in the faculty handbook and the employment agreement, a professor teaches courses/contact hours as determined by his or her credentials, college needs and a signed employment agreement.

The ideal candidate should possess a clear understanding of programming, shell scripting, 3-D lighting and rendering for visual effects. This includes MEL and Python scripting, shader writing, combining multipass CG images, and rendering with Arnold Renderer and Renderman. Familiarity with Linux is required and knowledge of Katana is a plus. You should also be proficient with current trends and technological developments in visual effects and technical direction. College-level teaching experience is preferred, and production experience in a supervisory capacity is strongly desired.

One of the fastest growing cities in the U.S., Atlanta provides professionals an ideal environment in which to live, work and play. Located in the heart of midtown, SCAD Atlanta is home to a dynamic cultural landscape that includes theaters, museums, fine art galleries, bustling shops and countless green spaces, including Piedmont Park and Atlanta’s famed BeltLine. The capital of the New South, Atlanta provides both southern charm and the ebb and flow of an alpha city.

Requirements:
— Terminal degree or its equivalent in visual effects or a related field
— Ability to be credentialed through SACS guidelines or justified to teach
