Chair of Fine Arts

Description

Fine arts professors at SCAD teach students to push the boundaries of expression while mastering classical methods of fine art instruction and practice. Join SCAD Savannah as chair of fine arts to support these goals and develop the vision of fine arts at The University for Creative Careers.

The chair of fine arts at SCAD is responsible for day-to-day administration of the fine arts department, which includes the painting major and the ceramics and printmaking minors, as well as directing, coordinating, and evaluating the department as necessary.

In this role, you will work with admission to recruit talented undergraduate and graduate students to SCAD and to the department. In consultation with the dean and department members, you will develop a strategic plan that is consistent with the goals of the School of Fine Arts as well as the overall SCAD strategic plan.

In addition to teaching classes annually, as assigned, you will pursue curriculum changes to reflect fine arts education in the 21st century, foster interdepartmental collaboration, and continue to enhance the reputation of the department in academic and professional circles. The chair of fine arts evaluates professors within the department through class observations as well as reviews of student evaluations, service and professional development, and contributions to the department’s goals. You will also work with the dean to oversee the departmental budget, including its development and implementation, and provide professional development opportunities for faculty.

The ideal candidate has leadership and supervisory experience in academics or significant professional experience in an appropriate discipline, with a distinguished record of scholarship, teaching, and/or professional expertise. A strong commitment to teaching, learning, and excellence in academics and a thorough understanding of curriculum development and the utilization of assessment to improve student learning and academic programs is desirable. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills are necessary, as is innovative, energetic, and model leadership.

This is your chance to work with talented students within the historic district of Savannah, Georgia, a walkable, bikeable coastal city providing a living laboratory for the study of art and design.

- Successful career as a faculty member and/or discipline professional, including a reputation for model leadership, excellence in the field, high standards, and innovation
- Evidence of success in creative and collaborative endeavors
