Professor of Communication

Join SCAD Atlanta as a full-time Professor of Communication and help students develop as critical thinkers, providing them with essential tools to complement their studio practice and ensure professional creative success.

The liberal arts department is home to SCAD Core, one of the most academically diverse general education programs at any arts university in the U.S. Here students learn to express, defend, and investigate new ideas in required and elective classes in subjects including anatomy, astronomy, biology, communication, creative writing, English, foreign languages, mathematics, philosophy, physics, political science, and psychology.

You will teach one of the most important SCAD Core components, COMM 105 Speaking of Ideas, which is required for every undergraduate student. This fundamental class invites students to study techniques of oral communication and to read and speak about the ideas they encounter on a variety of cultural, historical, and social topics.

In this position, you will teach three classes per academic quarter, with service opportunities that include offering workshops to students at the department’s annual Write On/Speak Up workshop series, guiding student projects with industry partners through SCADpro, and offering presentation coaching to students, professors, and staff across the university.

The ideal candidate has experience teaching media studies and intercultural communication, and candidates with teaching experience in any other liberal arts department disciplines are especially encouraged to apply. The candidate should have extensive college-level teaching experience, enthusiasm for working with a variety of learning styles in a leading arts university, and the capacity to serve on department teams and university councils to fulfill leadership positions.

As part of this diverse, energetic faculty, you’ll work in Atlanta, Georgia, one of the fastest-growing cities in the U.S. The SCAD location in the heart of Midtown is home to a dynamic cultural landscape that includes theaters, museums, fine art galleries, bustling shops, and countless green spaces, including Piedmont Park and Atlanta’s famed BeltLine. The capital of the New South, Atlanta provides both southern charm and the ebb and flow of an alpha city.

- Ph.D. in communication or related discipline preferred, master’s degree considered
