Associate Chair, Interactive Design & Game Dev

Join SCAD as the associate chair of interactive design and game development. In this role, you will develop curriculum and assist the chair in evaluating professors within the department through class observations and reviewing student evaluations, service and professional development and contributions to departmental goals. You’ll also teach classes annually, as assigned.

In consultation with the chair, dean and department members, you’ll develop a strategic plan for the department that is consistent with the School of Digital Media goals and overall SCAD strategic plan. With the department chair, you’ll provide vision and leadership for the liberal arts department, and you’ll work with the chair and dean to provide professional development opportunities for professors. In addition, you’ll foster interdepartmental collaboration and continue to enhance the reputation of the SCAD interactive design and game development department in academic and professional circles. You’ll also work with admission to recruit talented undergraduate and graduate students to SCAD.

The idea candidate has experience developing interactive media for professional clients and/or shipped video game titles for PC, consoles and mobile platforms. You are proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Maya, 3D Studio Max, Zbrush, Substance Designer/Painter and Unreal or Unity. Experience in game art direction, development pipelines and programming languages such as C++, Python and Java is a plus. Familiarity with 3-D printing or technical art pipelines in level design, event scripting, particle effects, animation and/or shaders is a significant plus. Experience in professional-level visual art and design production and teaching and developing online coursework is also preferred.

Additionally, you are able to motivate students and faculty of diverse backgrounds to think creatively and critically. University-level administration experience is preferred.

Requirements:
- Terminal degree or its equivalent in game design, computer art or a related field
- Minimum of three years of university-level teaching experience
