Role Summary
MSG Ventures is looking for a Lead Test Site Technician to join a groundbreaking post-production department based in Los Angeles. As the content delivery team for the MSG Sphere projects, we strive to create world-class content at an unprecedented scale on the largest LED screens ever made.?
This role requires a deep understanding of live content playback hardware and software solutions. Working closely with post production teams and the rest of the Playback & Test Systems team, the Lead Test Site Technician role requires participation in the setup, calibration, optimization, and operation of media servers and test systems to establish deliverable specifications and validate that content meets them. In addition to setting up and maintaining playback systems for review and testing, this role requires programming and operating during review sessions for content creators and executives. Candidates must be able to demonstrate real world experience and a proven track record of ability to apply these processes within the walls of a fast-moving creative environment and under live performance conditions.
Specific Functions/Activities:
- Working closely with the Head of playback, define and oversee playback system design and testing project scopes.
- Coordinate media preparation and loading, program and operate playback sessions
- Closely determine standards and test protocols to measure playback systems performance
- The building and programming of video terminal racks for testing and concept proof
- Work closely with external partners to ensure data paths and efficient communication across hardware solutions
- Engineering Support of video equipment for all types of Video equipment used in the Sphere environment.
- Provide playback services on high profile reviews with executives and creatives
Qualifications:
- Degree in engineering or equivalent work experience
- 1+ years of previous experience as a Video playback engineer or similar role.
- Experience with large format multi-processor systems is a must.
- Must have operational and engineering experience with 7thSense Media Servers – additional experience with Disguise, Hippo, or Pandora is a preferred
- Experience with LED screens and processing systems
- Experience working with visual applications – Adobe CC, C4D, Illustrator, 7thSense
- Experience and working knowledge of codecs and image sequences – DPX, .7th, ProRes, DNx, Targa, TIFF
- Knowledge of IT networks, video routing systems, and broadcast solutions
- Ability to write technical SOPs, Content Deliverable Specifications, Workflow charts, Operating Check Lists
- A confident, professional, and persuasive communication style with senior leaders and team members
- A passion for creative problem-solving and strategic thinking
- Ability to remain flexible and calm in high-pressure situations and adjust as multiple moving parts consistently change.
