Part-Time Professor of Foundation Studies

Description

SCAD seeks a Professor of Foundation Studies to inspire students as they develop innovative solutions, advance their drawing and design skills, and build the visual language essential to their future creative careers.

Ideal candidates will have a strong portfolio of professional work and the ability to teach design and drawing classes in an active and engaging learning environment. The university has a specific need for faculty who can teach design classes such as Color: Theory and Application, Creative Thinking Strategies, and Design III: Time. Drawing classes include traditional observation approaches as well as classes such as digital drawing, drawing for storyboarding, and life drawing classes. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is preferred

The SCAD undergraduate experience is anchored in foundation studies, a thoughtfully curated series of courses that provides students with a studio foundation that builds visual, conceptual, and creative abilities essential to their development as professionals. Using both traditional and digital processes to propel students into major-specific disciplines where their achievements are internationally recognized with honors such as 2018 Emerging Product Designer of the Year presented by the European Product Design Award, 2018 CFDA Geoffrey Beene Design Scholarship Award, 2017 Student Emmy Award for Best Scripted Series, and more.

Through rotating exhibitions at SCAD museums and galleries and the university’s extensive permanent collection, you and your students will have exclusive access to objects of study at the SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah, SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film in Atlanta, and the university’s numerous galleries. Enriching signature events invite visiting artists from across the globe to engage in creative discourse. Recent guest artists have included Carlos Cruz-Diez, Alfredo Jaar, Carrie Mae Weems, Hank Willis Thomas, Dustin Yellin, and Omar Victor Diop, to name a few. This global network of museums, galleries, signature events, and more provides unparalleled opportunities for students to explore the emergence of innovative forms of visual expression.

Named among the best small cities in the U.S by Conde´ Nast Traveler, Savannah offers an inviting climate and a culturally rich downtown, providing a real-world workshop for the study of art and design. The university blends seamlessly into the Savannah landscape and provides students with a dynamically layered learning environment in which to thrive.
