Part-Time Professor of Industrial Design

Description

SCAD industrial design students create memorable experiences by directly influencing the aesthetic language, performance and value of products and services. Their identification of design opportunities, engagement in scenario planning and proposed solutions to real-world challenges have been recognized by international organizations, such as the European Product Design Awards, Core77 Design Awards, and the Red Dot Design Awards, where industrial design students won several Best of the Best Awards in recent years.

As a part of SCAD’s innovative School of Design faculty, you have an opportunity to inspire students to solve design challenges, consider strategic business objectives and shape the form, function and emotional experiences of every day life. Ideal candidates will understand user experience design, product conceptualization and development, and possess advanced visualization skills. Industrial design experience to lead an active and engaging learning environment that mirrors professional studio practices is essential.

Working alongside highly motivated and diverse students, you will lead collaborative studios and find opportunities to partner with the creatives and executives of leading brands, such as AT&T, Dynacraft, Mattel, Microsoft and BMW, to generative imaginative, feasible solutions to real-world design challenges. The result? Outstanding portfolios that help our graduates take the professional world by storm.

One of the fastest growing cities in the U.S., Atlanta provides professionals an ideal environment to live, work and play. Located in the heart of Midtown, SCAD Atlanta is home to a dynamic cultural landscape that includes theaters, museums, fine art galleries, bustling shops and countless green spaces, including Piedmont Park and Atlanta’s famed BeltLine. The capital of the New South, Atlanta provides both southern charm and the ebb and flow of an alpha city.

Requirements:

• Terminal degree or its equivalent in industrial design or a related field
• Professional experience documented through design work
• Understanding of user-centered research, ideation, development, modelling and prototyping
• Desire to mentor exceptional students
• Ability to foster an active and engaging learning environment
