Production Artist- Compositor

Role Summary

This is a compositor role joining the growing MSG Sphere team in early development of technology and content for the MSG Sphere studio. Initially, this artist would come alongside camera, production innovations and creative development teams to enable both process and ideation in support of content delivery. Eventually, this artist will be a part of a larger post-production team, creating final content for the MSG Spheres.

  • Ideal candidates have an appetite for problem solving and are forward thinking in methodologies 
  • Interest in being a part of an ambitious, innovative project requiring collaboration and teamwork 
  • Artists that will excel, enjoy the nexus of technology and artistry in the craft of 2D compositing 
  • Working closely with leadership in post-production, Post Supervisors, and camera development department, this position is ideal for good communicators with a positive attitude 
  • Compositing team will be stitching shots based on bespoke capture systems, including arrays, nodal, and motion control, participating with production to field test production models in post, while developing a unique language for the Sphere with the creative team.  

Qualifications

  • Proficiency equivalent to 10+ years of experience working as VFX compositor 
  • Previous work experience in VR or spherical projects desired. 
  • Nuke and Fusion expertise, with adaptability across other potential 2D software such as Blackmagic Resolve, SGO Mistika, Adobe After Effects, Silhouette, etc. 
  • Previous experience stitching for large resolution formats required, including working with Cara toolset, basic tracking and roto. 
  • Positive attitude and proven track record in problem solving with expressed interest in new technology. 
  • Software agnosticism a plus, with some levels of fluency in adjacent software like Adobe Premiere, PTGui, 3D software and rendering, Syntheyes / 3DEqualizer or other 3D tracking software a definite bonus. 
  • Additional proficiencies in virtual production, real-time rendering, roto, paint, and cleanup a plus.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:  

  • At the time of this posting, the MSG Sphere studio is operating in accordance to local guidance on safe Covid-19 regulations. As such, a remote work-from-home onboarding to MSG Sphere work is likely. While the studio technology team will support remote work, MSG is seeking applicants local to Los Angeles with the eventual expectation of working on site in our Burbank location.
