The Editorial Supervisor is responsible for supporting and leading the growing team of assistants and editors who will assemble MSG Sphere shows. This position is an integral part of a fast-paced and agile production environment where staff and contract editors depend on the consistency and depth of organizational knowledge possessed by the Editorial Supervisor, and the Studio as a whole relies on this position to identify and cover any creative editorial needs that require attention.

In this role, the ideal candidate will have the opportunity to create an organized structure for the editorial review process and to help diagnose inefficiencies and offer solutions early on. Additionally, they should also possess the necessary skills and talent to perform creative editorial functions in those categories. The ideal candidate will be able to coordinate and support multiple projects simultaneously and have a keen awareness of deadlines.

This role requires a deep knowledge of non-linear editing software as well as production, post-production and visual effects workflows for producing high-end content. Ideal candidates are self-motivated, highly organized, and able to organize footage, sync multiple cameras, manage timecode, conform, and convert files from various sources for the post-production pipeline.

Specific Functions/Activities

  • Organize, sync, log, trim, assemble, and otherwise prep footage for edit, and edits for review
  • Conform edits and break out plates for VFX, color, and audio departments.
  • Over-cut VFX, graded finals, and audio mixes to assure conformity with locked edits.
  • Set up and maintain editorial bays and shared media storage for freelance editors.
  • Recognize, troubleshoot, and solve technical problems independently.
  • Regularly meet with leads of VFX, sound, color, and playback teams to foster communication between departments.

  • A unique blend of both creative editor with in-depth experience and as well as technical subject matter expert in all things editing. Ideal candidate has cinema, large format, VR, and immersive experience.
  • College degree preferred or additional production certificate programs.
  • 15+ years of online editing experience at studio, network or post production facility.
  • Extensive knowledge of Resolve, Avid Media Composer, and Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Extensive knowledge of codecs, image types, file formats, resolutions and frame rates.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills as well as juggling competing priorities and changing expectations. Must be a team player and work well under tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge and interest in current trends in video and post-production technology.
  • Previous experience as 1st Assistant Editor with history of setting up a post shop from the ground up to support an end to end creative process all the way up to mastering.

  • At the time of this posting, the MSG Sphere studio is operating in accordance to local guidance on safe Covid-19 regulations. As such, a remote work-from-home onboarding to MSG Sphere work is likely. While the studio technology team will support remote work, MSG is seeking applicants local to Los Angeles with the eventual expectation of working on site in our Burbank location.
