Senior Director Experience Strategy & Design

Role Summary

The Sr. Director Experience Strategy & Design leads experience strategy for creative and design at MSG Sphere. This role works in close partnership with Sphere Studios leadership and is accountable to ensure the strategic vision and execution of business goals are at the forefront of creative content development and implementation.

In addition to leading on experience strategy for MSG Sphere, she/he will also build and lead the Experience Design and content strategy team. They are an advocate of impactful creative work, providing strategy guidance to ensure our work is on brand, aligned with business goals, and meets the needs of stakeholders & clients. This role requires skilled collaboration and partnership across the company.

Specific Functions/Activities 

  • Partner with the SVP Experience and Design to develop, manage, and implement our strategic roadmap for experiences at Sphere
  • Develop Sphere’s experiential language and guide its implementation across key strategic initiatives including the Main Attraction, Residencies and Brand partnership activations.
  • Define the strategic vision and goals in line with the business needs; be able to define the “what, where, when, why and how” of a proposed project before budgets are committed.
  • Drive and elevate the strategic experience and design process ensuring work is executed to the highest standard.
  • Develop strategic basis for all creative work in partnership with Creative Directors, and provide guidance on execution to ensure alignment with strategic goals
  • Design R&D road maps for quick testing and making sense of research findings.
  • Partner with the creative directors in the process of strategic idea generation; structure and catalyze brainstorming and development.
  • Provide strategic direction and help with outreach and curation of creative collaborators including artists, creative collectives, performers, technologists and designers.
  • Lead presentations, strategy sessions and brainstorms with executive stakeholders & clients.
  • Respond to stakeholder feedback; steward the creative integrity of projects.
  • Articulate strategic ideas via written proposals and presentations that effectively communicate each concept & deliverable.
  • Identify and execute strategic hires, develop and grow our design talent, ensure resourcing meets the needs of our business, leveraging staff and contractors as needed.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in a creative studio environment, developing innovative and engaging experiential concepts across digital and physical platforms
  • Proven track record in live entertainment with large scale digital and physical experiences
  • Deep understanding of the guest experience in entertainment and art
  • Proven ability to both collaborate and lead with highly creative colleagues to achieve business goals
  • Experience in managing teams of 5+ people.
  • An innovative and creative problem-solver, with a passion for storytelling at the intersection between physical and digital.
  • Advanced degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience
  • A leader of people who empowers and inspires; a consensus builder; able to work across the business seamlessly to achieve shared goals.
  • Solid knowledge of experience design & production workflows as they relate across our core offerings.
  • Technically adept, and able to clearly convey complex design requirements and dependencies –including but not limited to rendered & real-time content production, interactive technologies, and physically installations and interfaces.
  • A passion for research and trend analysis across the spectrum of art, entertainment and technology
