Art Director

Timberline Studio is a diverse team seeking to tell emergent stories in beautiful and stylized worlds. Our first release was The Red Lantern, a story-driven, dog-sledding game. Our team is comprised of veterans and those that are newer to the industry and we pride ourselves on helping to build up new talent. We are seeking curious and imaginative people to join our team and help us to expand The Red Lantern world and work on our next title.

We're looking for an Art Director who will develop an original and stylized look for our next game. As Art Director you'll be responsible for defining the look of the game while supporting the design and narrative pillars. This is a hands on position where you'll be creating a variety of art assets and also providing the necessary feedback and leadership to bring the vision to life. The ideal candidate is comfortable creating key art for the studio to rally behind or to use for marketing as well as assisting with paint overs, textures, concepts, turnarounds and other day to day work for the studio to guide the artistic direction.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Define and communicate the visual design, style, and artistic pillars for our game.

  • Collaborate with the art team to make this vision a reality.

  • Iterate on the designs and concepts to support the overall goals of the game.

  • Create style guides, reference, and bibles for the characters, environment, lighting, and vfx.

  • Help to develop and lead the art pipeline such that feedback and reviews happen in a timely and productive manner.

  • Be an integral part of the studio's culture of collaboration and openness.

 

It'd be great if you also could help with…

  • 2D animation for VFX and other systems

  • Painting textures

  • Creating marketing assets

  • Light UI design and iconography

  • Working with the game engine(s) - we use Unity and Unreal

 

Required Experience

  • A strong artistic vision that you have guided through a personal or professional project

  • Skilled in both character and environment design

  • An understanding of how to bring a vision to life across all the artistic facets of a game

  • Able to communicate and provide guidance on how to accomplish the artistic vision through reviews, documentation, sketches and more

  • Assist with prioritization for the art team's tasks

  • While Art Director experience isn't required, you should be highly collaborative and an excellent leader

  • Proactive with a strong sense of self management
