Jr. Motion Capture Technician

Deck Nine Games is looking to hire a Jr. Motion Capture Technician to help facilitate the operation of our motion capture stage. This position is slated to begin in May 2021.

 

Located near Boulder, Colorado, Deck Nine Games is a BAFTA and VGA nominated developer of narrative adventure games. Always innovating, we're growing and are seeking additional motion capture technicians to join our amazing team.

 

Our Jr. Motion Capture Technicians get to work with bleeding edge motion capture technology and are essential to providing key support services to ensure that Mocap Technicians, Talent, Directors, and Leads can experience a smooth and efficient shooting experience.

 

Currently, a majority of the studio is remote, waiting until it is safe to return to the office. This position will be partially onsite/offsite until we are able to return to the studio full time. When we have a shoot that necessitates onsite work, we have comprehensive COVID-19 social distancing procedure that is followed.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work within a team of Motion Capture Technicians to capture the highest quality full performance capture possible.

  • Assist MoCap Technicians with maintaining and operating hardware and software for Vicon Shogun, XSens, and Faceware systems.

  • Assist with creating markered props with high-level precision to their digital counterparts.

  • Manufacture custom set pieces for mocap, using a workshop of physical tools.

  • Assemble motion capture sets in preparation of shoot days.

  • During a shoot, quickly assembling and striking sets as needed.

  • Operate reference cameras to record mocap shoots.

  • Dress in a mocap suit to be captured for pre-visualization, prototyping, or actual content production.

  • Ensure high quality data capture/data quality assurance during shoots.

  • Support timely processing of mocap animations through our pipeline, using internally developed tools and Jira.

  • Edit together dailies videos of reference video footage in DaVinci Resolve.

  • Track, clean, and retarget motion capture data.

It is estimated based on what a successful Colorado applicant might be paid. It assumes that the successful candidate will be in Colorado or perform the position from Colorado. Requirements & Skills
  • Any experience with motion capture systems or film production, professional or academic. Or a deep-seated desire to pursue a career in motion capture.

  • Ability to work on-site of our studio, located in Westminster, CO near Denver and Boulder, on a weekly basis.

  • In short, you enjoy wearing many hats, and sharing them with your teammates.

  • You can operate a professional video camera. You understand the technical settings and can also frame up a shot perfectly.

  • You love to build things, physically and/or digitally. You have hands-on experience with woodworking, metalworking, or other hands-on crafting.

  • Ability and motivation to learn new tools and skills quickly.

  • Demonstrate an extraordinary attention to detail and the ability to solve problems on the fly.

  • Possess excellent troubleshooting abilities, both creatively and technically.

  • Proactive with identifying areas for improvement and pursuing solutions for them.

  • Able to collaborate with anyone effectively, actively fostering a humble environment of teaching, learning, and growing within the team.

  • Possess clear, efficient communication skills.

Bonus

  • You have a deep desire to push cinematic storytelling in video games.

  • Experience with any of the following systems: Faceware, Vicon Shogun, XSens.

  • Experience with animation and a content production pipeline
