Role Summary
As part of MSG Sphere Studio’s Experience and Design team, Illustrators/Storyboard Artists collaborate to visually communicate concepts ranging in fidelity from sketches through detailed 2D/3D renders and polished pitches & presentations. Under the direction of the Creative Director and Art Director, they work with cross-functional teams to research, develop and express experiential concepts across a variety of platforms. We are looking for a wildly creative teammate who has an affinity for new technology, pop culture trends and constantly seeks opportunities to improve their visual design skills. They are emboldened by the challenge of being a part of the team designing a world’s first medium & platform.
The Illustrator / Storyboard Artist will be an integral member of a creative concept, development and design team, visualizing early concepts across a gamut of immersive and experiential projects. The ideal candidate is forward thinking, values innovation and enjoys pushing through creative boundaries. Current concept development and design teams are exploring the unique creative language that will exist within the many transformative spaces at MSG Sphere, and this artist will be the next complimentary member of that team. We welcome multi-cultural storytellers who have a diverse perspective, and the ability to visually communicate a wide range of styles and narratives. Experienced artists with diverse backgrounds are invited to come work with us to build a new language of immersive experiences and entertainment.
Specific Functions/Activities:
- Develop visual communication designs, from rough sketches and story boards through multi-platform visual designs and refined concept images.
- Provide visual design and creative experiential thinking across a variety of projects.
- Collaborate with project teams to visualize, research, and development original, scalable concepts and experiences for various media: projection mapping, interactive screens and art installations, live show visuals, brand installations, motion graphics & unique massive scale multimedia shows.
- Research and assist in the preparation documents to communicate ideas to stakeholders, including design proposals and presentations.
- Source references and identify trends from the worlds of design, art, film and music.
- Ensure that all work meets a high level of creativity, innovation and visual quality.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience working in a fast-paced professional creative production studio.
- Proficient in a variety of methods to convey ideas and concepts (e.g. quick sketches, storytelling, storyboards, mood boards, concept treatments, etc.)
- Demonstrated visual design software proficiency in Photoshop, InDesign, Keynote, PowerPoint, Illustrator, etc.
- Experience in any of the following would be a plus: 3D software such as Cinema 4D/Maya/Blender, compositing software such as After Effects/Nuke, and design packages such as Vectorworks/AutoCAD/ Sketchup.
- Able to sketch and layout ideas in a quick and cohesive manner.
- Strong visual eye and design background; understanding of lighting, perspective, form, color, scale and perspective; as well as typography, graphics with understanding of design process and production methods.
- Experience in Exhibition Design, Show Design or Architecture a plus.
- A knack for capturing the spirit of a concept in presentation design format.
- Able to work in varying degrees of fidelity, from sketching through production (speed vs quality).
- Able to communicate the thinking behind your process.
- Strong collaboration and relationship building skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of emerging creative technologies, best practices and experimental approaches in design.
- Is an enthusiastic team player, who genuinely enjoys working and collaborating with others with strong communication skills.
- Willingness to take feedback, criticism and rework material while maintaining a fresh perspective
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work under fast paced, high pressure with short deadlines.
Portfolio of self produced work is required for this role.
