This role works in close coordination with other Production Innovation leads, technicians, and IT to identify their needs and to integrate software and tools to automate and optimize their workflows. Candidates must have a demonstrated user-centric approach to tool development and software integration, with experience working on content creation pipelines for large scale animation or VFX facilities.

The Core Pipeline Software team is tasked with creating and maintaining tools to automate ingest, transcode, plate breakout, VFX asset creation and tracking, rendering, audio processes, color pipeline, review, QC, and final delivery. In addition to the LA office there will be a requirement to expand tools to other MSG locations as well as integrating with third party pipelines and cloud rendering and processing facilities. Candidates must have demonstrated experience integrating all of the above with task and asset tracking tools such as Shotgun

Specific Functions/Activities:

  • Manage the integration of software tools to automate tasks for I/O, edit, VFX, color, sound, and QC.
  • Work in direct collaboration with end-users and stakeholders to determine solutions that scale and address problems in a user-friendly manner.
  • Perform regular code reviews with pipeline developers to assure adherence to industry-standard conventions for coding and documentation.
  • Balance the prioritization between short term solutions and long-term pipeline infrastructure.
  • Communicate effectively with all departments to collect and integrate feedback into tool development.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of eight years writing pipeline tools for a major VFX or animation facility.
  • Expert user of Python, C++ and other common languages, and Linux, with a demonstrated familiarity with tool development and integration for Maya, Houdini, Nuke, Deadline (or similar render manager), and Shotgun as a must.

  • Manager, Core Pipeline Integration will report to the Director of Core Pipeline, working closely with post-production management, Post Supervisors, and creative development teams.
  • The role requires a self-directed “production-minded” work ethic helping to establish the language and medium of Sphere.
  • As the team grows there is potential for expansion and direct reports to manage.

At the time of this posting, the MSG Sphere studio is operating in accordance to local guidance on safe Covid-19 regulations. As such, a remote work-from-home onboarding to MSG Sphere work is likely. While the studio technology team will support remote work, MSG is seeking applicants local to Los Angeles with the eventual expectation of working on site in our Burbank location.
