CG Generalist

Role Summary

The CG Generalist is the member of the MSG Ventures Interactive group responsible for the creation and implementation of diverse artistic processes, tools and pipelines used by the Art Department for all projects undertaken by the Interactive Concept Group.

Specific Functions/Activities:

  • Implement art assets into game engine in a manner consistent with team and project vision and brand guides.
  • Work with the team members and leads of different software development disciplines and branches to assist and support in their development cycle.
  • Will be directed per project to learn and take on new software and engine challenges to bridge knowledge gaps between the other art disciplines and engineering.
  • Create base line VFX, Animations, 2d/3d Models, Grey-box models, Textures, lighting, and project setup; either self-directed or from clear documentation and guidelines and based on up-to-date asset creation methods.
  • Attend and report in scheduled scrums and sprint planning sessions, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Asset Development and support (80-100%) The CG Generalist's primary responsibility is to develop, support, and implement work within the Interactive Department. The CG Generalist will work closely with the team to create work in a variety of different disciplines centered around Computer Graphics asset creation and organization through 3d Models, Animations, Rigging, and Visual Effects.
  • Advancement of knowledge (10-20%) The CG Generalist will work with the Art Director to determine skills and knowledge valuable to the team that the CG Generalist will learn to apply to the team’s projects. This includes but is not limited to exploratory asset creation, working with department specialists, and documenting the findings.


  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in visual and creative 3d asset creation for videogames or other interactive media.
  • Must have launched at least two AAA videogame titles.
  • Strong proficiency in Animation, Modeling, and VFX creation.
  • Proficiency Creating 3d animations either directly game engine and Maya or other comparable 3d tools
  • Proficiency with 3ds Max/Maya/Zbrush or other comparable 3d tools
  • Proficiency in 2d asset creation processes with tools like Spine or other comparable software.
  • Strong Adaptability and Collaboration skills
  • A portfolio or demo reel demonstrating strong fundamentals in creating VFX, animation/rigging, and 3d Models.
  • Quick learning and a desire to understand new tools on the regular
  • Proficiency in working self-directed in exploratory work
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a willingness to give and receive constructive critique and feedback from team members
