Unreal Engine Developer / TD
Description
FuseFX has an opening in Los Angeles! We have opportunities at our studio for an experienced and talented Unreal Engine Developer / TD with a background in television and/or feature film VFX.
Working heavily in Unreal Engine, this role would focus primarily on their development skills, with knowledge of C++, Blueprint and Python.
Unity skills and Perforce version control experience would be a great plus.
This position would work within our team on incorporating real time technology into our pipeline, develop tools and workflows. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of Unreal Engine as well as animation / VFX pipelines in general.
A high level of technical knowledge combined with a creative sensibility is critical. The right candidate will have the opportunity to help shape the real-time workflow to maximize the efficiency and quality of both asset creation and project execution.
The TD will assist teams of artists in tackling projects and be equipped to provide support on complicated technical issues within Unreal. They will also work closely with our pipeline team to advise on improved integration and implement best practices to maximize efficiency between our real-time and VFX artists.
Responsibilities include:
• Work with producers, technical and creative leads to provide input for the budgeting process for real- time elements of a production
• Help design and manage the pipeline from the artists through to deployment.
• Create interaction and functionality using Unreal's Blueprints system.
• Optimize content through profiling and enhancing performance with the help of diagnostic tools and instructing the artists on modeling and texturing best practices.
• Collaborate with programmers to develop and test new features, prototype shader code, and provide useful feedback during R&D phases.
• Setting up the project source control
• Working with the technical artist to define the project organization
• Work with the supervisor to identify need for custom, show-specific tools, for example review tools like laser pointer, measure, scrub playback etc.
• Responsible for writing and distributing any tool plugins - must be an efficient developer able to rapidly prototype
• Lead optimization efforts to maintain the show framerate at VR spec
• Responsible for making builds and ensuring there is always a backup of working builds
• UI Programming
Skills required:
• A background in real time rendering for Virtual Production / Game / VFX / Interactive / VR development
• A definitive technical vision
• A demonstrable track-record as a Technical Director on multiple high-profile titles.
• C++ & blueprints. Know how to write plugins for Unreal and be comfortable with the Unreal build system
• Source control
• Slate/UMG (Unreal UI systems)
• 3D Math (linear algebra)
• Shading Languages a plus (HLSL etc)
• Understanding of the entire 3D rendering pipeline
• Have shipped a VR project
