Software Engineer, Lighting

Description

Our Software R&D team is responsible for developing Pixar’s in-house proprietary software. We work very closely with both artists and engineers to build innovative filmmaking tools that enable our film production and continuously extend artistic reach.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled software engineer to join our team that develops the tools our production artists use to light, render, and composite the final imagery seen on screen! In this role, you will balance short-term production requests with long-term projects for advancing our production software.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with artists and technical leadership to propose, plan, implement, and deploy features

  • Maintain and improve the software individually and collaboratively with a team of peer engineers

  • Work directly with artists to support their use of Pixar's proprietary filmmaking software

  • Identify, triage, debug, and resolve high-priority issues affecting production artists

  • Work comfortably within a sophisticated, multi-layered technology pipeline

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional experience or a proven aptitude in C++ and Python

  • Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail

  • Familiarity with the fundamental mathematics of computer graphics

  • Appreciation for the importance of long-term code health, peer review, automated testing, and documentation

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent formal training

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Experience developing in a UNIX / Linux environment

  • Experience with 3D applications and their APIs (e.g., Katana, Houdini, Nuke, Unreal)

  • Experience using Qt to build rich user interfaces

  • Experience working closely with both technical and non-technical users

  • Detail oriented and organized with excellent communication skills

  • Ability to build positive and effective working relationships with diverse groups of colleagues and coworkers
