Director Physical Production

Description

The Director Physical Production will play a pivotal role in developing key entertainment technical solutions. They will manage technical and production vendor relationships and assist project managers with a technical focus from conception through deliverables. The Director Physical Production must have the ability to communicate effectively across departments and external resources. As well as being very technically minded the Director Physical Production will be point contact for technical development within the project, construction implementation, commissioning testing and final approval. The ideal candidate will have a broad understanding of entertainment systems and audio-visual technologies such as lighting, audio, rigging, transport and logistics and construction experience. With significant expertise in three or more fields. Communicating intricate technology solutions between top executives, project managers and engineers will be an essential and daily used skill set. The candidate will be constantly learning about the latest technologies and understanding the technical implications of such technologies as they relate to MSG shows across multiple venues. They must have amazing interpersonal skills and the ability to stay calm whilst operating within a high pressure fast passed environment.

Specific Functions/Activities Summary

  • Support all technical development of project and show development.
  • Communicate complex solutions with entertainment market leading ideas and approaches.
  • Develop, document and implement key testing, quality assurance, interoperability and maintenance solutions across existing technical platforms.
  • Solve complex hardware obstacles, design and implement solutions with new and inventive ideas
  • Evaluate and optimize existing technology solutions designs for future compatibility and operational efficiencies
  • Develop and maintain key customer and vendor relationships
  • Work to plan and implement workflow designs to keep pace with and plan for future requirements.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of working with entertainment technologies
    • Specific focuses on live and theatrical systems such as automation, LED and Video systems, show control, lighting systems, robotics, automation, permanent installations and the event industry.
    • Experience with large scale construction and event-based projects (in CA a bonus)
  • Expertise in multiple entertainment technology disciplines (minimum of 3)
  • Positive and self-directed, initiative oriented, proactive, with the ability to positively influence and motivate indirect reports, leads by example.
  • Expertise and strong attention to quality control, operability testing, construction code
  • Expertise reading and interpreting fabrication drawings, engineering reports and facility fit-out documentation.
  • A minimum degree in a technical field (or a combination of a technical program certifications and commensurate entertainment industry experience of 8+ years).
  • Should have supervisory, support, design, and integration experience in theatrical, production, networking, and media technologies.
