Description
Weta Digital seek a smart, dedicated Pipeline Engineer to join our Los Angeles-based Pipeline team. This role will remain remote for the time-being with the expectation to return to work onsite when possible.
We are charged with developing and maintaining Weta’s tools and technology used to facilitate the virtual filmmaking process. Our tools are used and developed in partnership with our client and are critical to enabling the delivery of creative content. We work closely with artists and technical directors to build these tools and workflows.
As a Pipeline Engineer, you will work with our in-house scene description, motion capture and artist-facing tools which are shared with our client. You will collaborate directly with artists, stakeholders and other highly talented engineers from all around the world to maintain and further develop new tools and technology. You will also be responsible for assisting in maintaining pipeline stability for the client in a constantly evolving software environment. This will include triaging and fixing issues as they are reported.
As part of this role, you will:
- Develop, deploy and support new tools and workflows for artists
- Provide front line support for artists authoring content for virtual production
- Provide front line support across a range of Weta Digital software during motion capture shoots
- Troubleshoot software, debug issues and liaise with other development teams
- Assist in testing, deployment and training of new software and workflows
- Assist in gathering feedback and user requirements.
We seek a collaborative, clever thinker with the following:
- 3+ years professional experience in the VFX industry as an engineer or technical director
- 3+ years professional experience using Python
- GUI development, preferably Qt
- Familiarity with VFX production pipelines and common DCC apps (Maya, Motionbuilder, etc)
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- The ability to learn independently and use solid judgment
- Be driven and motivated to make great tools and software
- Be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Be comfortable working in Linux environments
- Be willing to work occasional stage production hours when supporting a mocap shoot
- BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
Desirable / Additional skills:
- Experience or familiarity with virtual production workflows
- Experience with C++
- Knowledge and experience in creating plugins for DCC applications
- Familiarity with Scene Descriptions such as USD
- Experience with UX design (flowcharts, mockups etc).
