Assistant/Associate Professor in Graphic Design

Job Summary:

The School of Communication and the Arts at Marist College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in Graphic Design. The successful candidate will help oversee the Graphic Design curriculum, which comprises the largest number of majors and minors in the Department of Art & Digital Media. This particular faculty member will also have an important relationship with our Graphic Design faculty and students at LDM, our branch campus in Florence, Italy. As Professor of Graphic Design there will be opportunities for interdepartmental collaboration with Fashion and Communication departments.

This position is part of a cluster hiring initiative in Digital Innovation in the School of Communication and the Arts, in conjunction with Fashion Design and Multimedia Storytelling, and a college-wide hiring initiative with the goal of creating a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive institution.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

·      a terminal degree (MFA) in Graphic Design or related field.

·      at least three years teaching experience in Graphic Design related courses at the undergraduate level

·      an exceptional portfolio

·       

Essential Functions:

·      Teach Graphic Design courses such as Typography and Publication Design and our foundation course, Intro to Digital Media. Must have a working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite and other appropriate applications.

·      Conduct research and/or creative work in the candidate's area of expertise.

·      Engage in academic advising, assessment, and service to the institution and to the candidate's academic discipline/profession.

·      Supervise student groups

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with design fabrication facility

Interest in interdepartmental collaboration

Knowledge of design history and contemporary issues in design

Commitment to creating a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive institution.

About the Department and School:

The programs of the Department of Art and Digital Media give students the opportunity to develop as artists, designers, digital media creators, and scholars in facilities that support both traditional media, such as painting and sculpture, and the latest developments in new media. The programs are housed in the newly renovated and expanded Steel Plant, with four state-of-the-art digital labs, new traditional media studios, a maker lab equipped with new fabrication machines including 3D printers, large format 2-D printers, and laser cutter, as well as an interior garden with cafv© and gallery that exhibits regional and international artists as well as the work of our students.
