JUNIOR TECHNICAL ANIMATOR

*This role is based in our Canada studio in Quebec City*

Larian is seeking a motivated Junior Technical Animator that is interested in the design and implementation of gameplay animation systems and blend trees. In this position, you are expected to work with your supervisor, together with animators, designers and programmers to develop and support workflows that empower us to reach our animation quality goals, while also achieving the best gameplay responsiveness and behavioral goals. It is important that you have good communication skills and be able to collaboratively work with peers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, test and maintain complex animation systems together with animators, gameplay programmers and other team members as required
  • Work with Animation, Code and Design to achieve the look and feel of the desired animations style in-game
  • Assist in the integration and validation of animation assets
  • Debug animation graphs to solve possible gameplay animation issues
  • Provide technical support to the Animation and Cinematics team
  • Collaborate to ensure compliance of animation features with technical, aesthetic and gameplay constraints
  • Stay up-to-date to the latest developments in animation systems 
  • Support your supervisor in any ad hoc tasks and duties

REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong interest in creating and defining high-quality real-time animation systems
  • Practical understanding of animation logic: node graphs, IK, animation trees and similar engine editors and technologies;
  • Good character animation skills and understanding of animation principles;
  • Able to document and explain their work clearly and concisely;
  • Team oriented and a strong desire for collaborative participation in a team-based pipeline across different geographic locations
  • Able to take direction and feedback positively, adapt to change and thrive under the pressure of tight deadlines
  • Enthusiastic, methodical and organised approach to work with high quality standards
  • Sense of initiative, originality and resourcefulness in problem solving
  • Good written and verbal communication skills (English is mandatory)

NICE TO HAVES

  • Good knowledge of Autodesk Maya preferred, knowledge of Motionbuilder and similar packages is considered a bonus;
  • Experience working with high-fidelity motion capture;
  • Good understanding of rigging, skinning and related character technologies
