Instructor or Lecturer, Experimental Animation

Job Description:

The School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applicants for a nine-month, non-tenure earning instructor or lecturer position in emerging media. The anticipated start date is August 8th, 2022.

SVAD seeks a candidate with a balance of technical and theoretical foundations. The successful candidate will play an important role in the SVAD Emerging Media BFA which includes the following tracks: character animation, experimental animation, and graphic design. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of the principles and elements of design as applied to animation and visual storytelling. Core areas will include 2D/3D animation, motion graphics, and a strong understanding of the moving image. The principal duties of this position include teaching a four-course load per semester and service at the University of Central Florida Orlando main campus.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

A non-terminal master's degree (for instructor) or a terminal degree (for lecturer) in an appropriate discipline from an accredited institution by start of appointment. Appropriate disciplines include digital art, film, animation, the fine arts, or media-related discipline.

Candidates must have at least one-year previous teaching experience in 2D and 3D animation at an accredited institution of higher education.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference is given to candidates with at least one year of relevant professional industry production experience. Additionally, teaching experience in one or more of the following software is helpful: Toon Boom Harmony, Autodesk Maya, Adobe Creative Cloud (Adobe Animate and/or After Effects).

A strong understanding of traditional and digital 2D/3D animation and the production pipeline is encouraged. In addition, working knowledge of production development and design, storytelling, and understanding of foley and music to enhance visual language would be preferred.

 

Annual Salary:

Negotiable
