3D Generalist

Western FX Studios is looking for 3D Generalists for our live-action Netflix children’s series. This project will involve many shots with Full CG Ghost Characters and CG Props.

The Generalist will be working closely with the CG Supervisor to create photo-realistic assets.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Executes a broad range of VFX tasks including look development, lighting objects, modeling, texturing, animation, and rendering.
  • Establishes looks and/or follows set style direction.
  • Understands and follows production guidelines; solves design and/or effect challenges for key visual effects shots.
  • Receives and implements feedback quickly and effectively.
  • A technical understanding of visual effects pipelines is a plus.
  • And the candidate must be comfortable in a fast-paced, yet laid-back environment.

Western FX Studios is part of a boutique Post Production facility in Vancouver, Canada that creates visual effects for a stable, long-running client base - Air Bud Entertainment. We strictly follow all labor standards, pay proper OT after 8 hours (on the rare occasion that we do overtime), and have an excellent work environment. The studio best suits artists and programmers who value their lives and who, while working hard when they have to, also cherish the parts of their lives that aren't job-related.

We're best known for the family classic Air Bud, MVP, the Air Buddies franchises, the Pup Star franchise, and our first tv series for Disney and Netflix – the Emmy nominated Pup Academy. Western FX Studios also recently completed the Warner Brothers feature film, “Cats and Dogs 3: Paws Unite”, as well as shots for the NBC hit-show “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist”. Our latest Netflix series, “Scaredy Cats”, is currently in the Top 10 for kids programming on Netflix.


Hiring will commence immediately and will go until approximately August 2022.

There is potential for long-term extensions, and we pay extremely competitive rates. Preference will be given to BC Residents.

We are fully set up for remote work from home due to Covid-19.


Requirements:

  • 2+ years experience in live-action film or tv production, with a variety of skills across areas of realism lighting, modeling, texture, shading, look development, hard surface animation, and rendering with the ability to composite their own work.
  • Experience creating photorealistic lighting of CG characters, organic, & structural environments, props, etc.
  • Experience with PBR Lighting workflows.
  • Strong problem-solving skills that span different aspects of the VFX pipeline.
  • Skilled in using platforms including Houdini, Maya, Substance, and Nuke.
  • Some working experience and knowledge of shader writing, and lighting.
  • Basic knowledge of and experience with Shotgrid (Shotgun).
