Role Summary

MSG Sphere Studios is looking for a Stitcher to join a groundbreaking post-production department based in Los Angeles. As the content delivery team for the MSG Sphere projects, we strive to deliver world-class content at an unprecedented scale on the largest LED screens ever made. Stitchers work with the overall Compositing team to develop and optimize techniques for the stitching of footage captured using multi-cam arrays and nodal or motion-controlled panoramas. This role may involve work on set to assist in the supervision of capture as well as providing an on-location quick stitch capability. Ideal candidates have a demonstrated ability to problem solve shot-specific stitching issues and work unsupervised to deliver high quality stitching. The Stitching role requires extensive experience working on dome, virtual reality, motion picture, or television projects. This position requires the candidate to perform stitching-related activities in the creation of content for Sphere shows and to scout for new and innovative stitching methods or workflows as the technology and team expands.

Specific Functions/Activities Summary

  • Work directly with the Compositing Supervisor to develop and adhere to stitching techniques that will assure the highest quality end results. 
  • Follow all technical guidance while stitching and directly problem solve stitching issues as they occur. 
  • Test new software and techniques to improve quality and efficiency of stitching. 
  • Assist Compositing Supervisor in recruiting and training a world-class stitching team 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4 years working in high end compositing for VFX and minimum 3 years’ experience stitching footage from 360º/180º multi-cam arrays and nodal panoramas. 
  • Expert user of Nuke/CaraVR or Fusion, PTGUI, and MistikaVR. 
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and solve common stitching issues such as sync, rolling shutter, camera or lens problems, excessive parallax, etc. 
  • An interest in actively tracking advancements in stitching technology. 
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, take criticism, and work under high pressure with tight deadlines
