Associate Animator (CONTRACT/TEMP)


Blind Squirrel Games is searching for a motivated Associate Animator?to join us in creating an immersive experience for?PC and console.? 

Supported by Senior and Lead Animators, you will help develop speech graphics and integrate motion-capture data to create cinematic storytelling in a collaborative environment.?? 

The ideal candidate for this entry-level developer role has experience animating from block-out to polish and can translate a thorough understanding of the principles of body movement into high-quality work that meets project expectations and deadlines.?? 

Your responsibilities as a junior Animator are to deliver on a wide variety of sequences.?It is essential that the person in this position is well-versed in 3D content creation software, such as 3DS Max and Maya. Comprehensive knowledge of state machine implementation is a plus!?? 

We are seeking an animator that possesses the interpersonal skills necessary to do the job effectively—the vision to collaborate on pipeline elements cross-departmentally and the clarity to achieve those objectives.? 

This is a full-time contract position available to work remotely or based out of BSE's Irvine studio.? 


  1. Create compelling and memorable character animations through a blend of motion capture and some key-frame animation
  2. Produce visually stunning performances in a range of animation styles? 
  3. Work with motion capture data for both cinematic and in-game features? 
  4. Implement gameplay animations into state machine? 
  5. Collaborate cross-departmentally to establish, iterate and refine the animation pipeline? 
  6. Work closely with animators and programmers to construct, implement and debug polished gameplay mechanics?? 
  7. Facilitate and inform tool development?? 


  • 1+ years of professional gameplay animation experience??
  • Bachelor's degree in Art/Animation or equivalent experience?
  • Demo reel demonstrating strong animation principles—preferably their implementation in a real time engine??

  • High level of proficiency in Maya? 
  • Proficient command of weight, timing, and posing through key-framing and motion capture data manipulation as it relates to animation? 
  • Understanding of animation pipeline, integration, tools, and character rigs? 
  • Demonstrated ability to succeed in creative, team-oriented environments?? 
  • Excellent communication, time-management, and organizational skills?? 
  • Pride in everything you animate and an aptitude for problem-solving? 
  • Maintain a positive attitude in a highly collaborative and iterative team environment? 
  • Ability to take direction and critique from peers and supervisors to ensure consistency?? 

  • Experience with?MotionBuilder? 
  • Experience with motion capture data? 
  • AAA game development experience? 
  • Familiarity with animation blending systems? 
  • Published title working with FPS or TPS perspectives?? 
  • Proficient technical knowledge Lumberyard?? 
  • Knowledge of commercial game engines such as Unity or UE4? 
  • A deep-rooted interest in video games and game development?
