Retro Studios
Founded in 1998, Retro Studios is a wholly owned subsidiary of Nintendo Company, Ltd. Retro is a state-of-the-art game development studio, working in conjunction with Nintendo to bring award-winning games to Nintendo's cutting-edge next-generation platforms. Retro Studios is located in beautiful Austin, Texas. With rolling hills, scenic waterways, abundant wildlife, vibrant music and film scenes, and a laid-back cosmopolitan culture, Austin is a dynamic city with an excellent quality of life. Announced by Nintendo in January 2019, Retro Studios is currently in the midst of developing Metroid Prime 4 for the Nintendo Switch.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
- Works directly with artists and programmers to support development of advanced art pipelines that enhance and streamline the creation of art in the product.
- Participates in roadmap development
- Collaborates in strategically determining technical and artistic approaches and in developing new or enhanced technical tools.
- Liaisons between departments and teams to ensure effective communication
- Researches, defines, and documents construction standards in collaboration with artists
- Coach teams in efficient techniques that achieve the performance characteristics required
- Identifies and monitors performance problems providing optimization guidance
- Implements appropriate tools, techniques, and systems to facilitate the ability for artists to produce high quality art and animation as efficiently as possible with reduced technical hurdles
- Responsible for a broad scope of work including coordination of contributing teammates
- Maintains coding standards, writes robust, reusable, easy to understand code
- Creates special assets requiring high technical complexity and unique approaches as needed
- Coaches less experienced Technical Animators
