Audio Technician

Who are we hiring?
MSG is looking for an Audio Technician to join our cutting-edge live production team based in Los Angeles. As part of the Playback Department, the Audio Technician will work with our internal departments and external vendors to install, program and maintain our audio systems in Sphere Studios. The Audio Technician role will supervise and manage all audio playback systems, including DAW consoles, DSP processing, Audio over IP Networks and speaker systems. This position requires a creative thinker with the ability to self-organize and work seamlessly with other MSG departments in our studio. This role requires someone who has expertise in large-scale, live multi-channel experiences and can work within an end-to-end audio pipeline. This role will interface directly with other departments to define needs, recommend solutions, and provide timely feedback to steer their efforts to support and optimize sound processes required for the accurate performance of our audio playback systems. This role requires experience in the design, installation, configuration, and operation of end-to-end audio playback systems. The role will have extensive experience in Audio over IP network configurations and protocols, including Dante, Ravenna, AES67. Experience in systems such as QSC, Meyer, L’Acoustics, d+b, Digico, AVID, EAW, Allen & Heath, Holoplot is a must, with emphasis on delivering accurate audio reproduction.

What will you do?

• Architect, design and maintain advanced audio playback systems based on specific needs of projects.
• Define and apply best practices for audio workflows and systems, from media delivery to final audible output.
• Collaborate with Post-Production, Playback, Advanced Engineering & other business units to ensure audio capture systems are fully integrated and in alignment.
• Manage the testing of new audio playback solutions.
• Evaluate and recommend audio tools from outside vendors as needed.


What do you need to succeed?

• Minimum of 5+ years experience FOH (A1), Systems Technician & Monitor Engineer roles in live audio reproduction, including Corporate, Rock ‘n Roll, Broadway, Touring etc.
• Thorough knowledge of mixing software such as Reaper, Pro Tools, Logic Pro and Ableton, and common post-production software such as Waves, Izotope and Cedar Studio.
• Thorough knowledge of QSC, and spatialized audio reproduction software & hardware.
• Minimum 5+ years working with Audio over IP protocols including management of IP network configuration
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, take criticism, and work under high pressure with tight deadlines while maintaining team cohesion.
