Senior Manager Technical Operations

To deliver on this promise, we are building the largest immersive venue in the world, MSG Sphere at The Venetian in Las Vegas, with a second Sphere venue planned for London, pending necessary approvals. ROLE SUMMARY: The Senior Manager, Technical Operations is responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of building systems and event technology at MSG Sphere. The Senior Manager will advise and consult on the development of AV and Building Technology systems and participate in all operational planning and commissioning activities prior to opening of the new state-of-the-art venue. Reporting to the VP of Building Operations, the Senior Manager will oversee the Technical Operations Managers.

What will you do?

  • Works collaboratively with the VP Building Operations and VP Venue Development to develop and execute standard operating procedures for operating and maintaining MSG Sphere AV and building systems.
  • Consult and coordinate with MSG Ventures, Studios, and Design & Construction during the planning, procurement, and installation/construction phases on Sphere projects including but not limited to IPTV, architectural lighting, LED and digital signage systems, broadcast systems, power distribution, ancillary audio systems, and distributed antenna and venue radio system. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of these systems once venue opens.
  • Hires technical operations managers and coordinators and supervises team to execute all maintenance programs and event requirements. Technical Operations team will provide event coverage once venue opens.
  • Assist in the planning and tracking of budgets related to maintenance costs & estimates, utility cost estimates, and event cost estimates including internal and 3rd party labor requirements.
  • Collaborates with MSG Technical Operations team in New York to ensure all applicable systems are cross functional enterprise-wide and that MSG Venue Management quality standards are met.

 

SUPERVISION: 

 

Direct supervision of:

  • Technical Operations Managers (2)
  • Technical Operations Coordinator (1 under manager)

 

Indirect supervision of:

  • Building Electricians
  • Production Video, Lighting, Audio, Rigging Technicians

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:

 

  • Ability to work at height (upwards of 200’-300’+) on interior and exterior catwalks and on building maintenance unit.
  • Extensive standing, walking, keyboard usage and general administrative duties
  • Occasional travel to NY or Burbank, CA (<10%)

What do you need to succeed?
  • 6-8 years of progressive experience in AV systems management, broadcast, venue technology, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing a team in a complex, fast-paced, and diverse environment, preferably in a live event venue or facilities management role.
  • Candidates who have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours of college-level coursework (representing 2 years), or have shown similar self-development through certifications, trade school coursework, etc. are preferred.
  • Strong technical knowledge of IPTV systems including experience with video distribution, scheduling, content management systems, and related equipment.
  • Experience with LED video systems including service and maintenance of screen components, operation of media servers, and use of control systems.
  • Experience managing networked lighting control systems, both architectural and theatrical (ie: ETC, Lutron, etc).
  • Working knowledge of rigging and safety equipment and protocols (to be used for access and maintenance of venue systems and equipment)
  • Windows/PC proficient and experience using Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Professional and Bluebeam
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Well organized and detail oriented with an ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and diplomacy.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of weekends, nights and holidays required. May have split days off.
  • Commitment to providing a high-quality service experience for both internal and external clients.
