Senior Manager Production Systems

Description

Who are we hiring?
The Senior Manager of Production Systems is a multi-disciplinary entertainment technologist well versed in all things theatrical and IT; if it sits on a stage and plugs into a network, you can do something with it. You will manage a team of people who are similarly versed in entertainment technology to manage everything from a 4.5 petabyte NAS, to show control, motion capture, or immersive drone systems. You will regularly be called upon to integrate bleed-edge technology into our venue on a temporary and permanent basis.

What will you do?

  • Manage a multi-disciplinary team of programmers, operators, and technicians covering Show Control, IT, digital asset management, and special effects (4D, drones, lasers, motion capture, etc). Managing the team includes hiring, training, scheduling, mentoring, and filling in as needed.
  • Participate in the planning, documenting, training, and commissioning of systems as they are carried through from their design phases to opening night. Systems include, but are not limited to: Show Control, Digital Asset Management, motion capture, large scale storage NAS, vmWare ESXi cluster, drones.
  • Coordinate with design and production teams to bring new technologies into the building on a show-by-show and permanent basis.
  • Work with other Production and Operations disciplines to ensure all production and operational needs are met, sharing knowledge, resources, and personnel.
  • Along with other Production Systems managers, will serve rotating shifts as the Manager on Duty supervising all disciplines within the Production Systems department.
  • Coordinate with departmental managers and leadership to quickly address unresolved issues that arise in a brand-new venue, and to subsequently participate in debriefs to explore updates to departmental roles and responsibilities.
  • Create Standard Operating Procedures, training guides, and accurate and continually updated documentation.
  • Assist in planning and documenting department operational and capital budgets.
  • Maintain accurate records of work and maintenance activities.

SUPERVISION:

  • Show Control Programmers (x2)
  • Show Control Operators (x2)
  • Digital Assets Coordinator (x1)
  • Production Systems Operators (x3)

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:

  • Pre-opening, approximately 25% travel to NYC, Burbank, and elsewhere for training.
  • Post-opening, occasional travel (<10%) to NYC, Burbank, and trade conferences.
  • Extensive standing, walking, keyboard usage and general administrative duties
  • This is a 100% onsite role, with potential for flexible remote Fridays.

What do you need to succeed?
  • Must have 10+ years proven experience in high profile live production environments, including theatrical, concerts, sports, and awards shows.
  • Must have proven experience successfully managing teams during high-profile, stressful events.
  • Must have a solid knowledge of IT network equipment and IP configuration.
  • Has working experience in a variety of entertainment technologies including lighting, audio, video, and special effects.
  • Show Control programming experience highly desired, preferably with Medialon Manager.
  • Advanced IT experience highly desired. Team will be responsible for maintaining dozens of production computers, servers, and a 4.5 petabyte NAS.
  • Bonus skills include JavaScript, Node Red, Python, HTML & CSS, other programming languages, 3D modeling, CAD, and electronics
  • Must be willing to learn roles and skills of direct reports and step in to assist when necessary.
  • Must be flexible with work hours; this role performs on “Production time” with many work hours taking place outside of the standard 9-5.
  • Must be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed, rotating with other managers when possible.
  • Must be able to travel for training purposes during first year. Subsequent years will have occasional travel for training and conferences.
  • Must be flexible in roles and responsibilities – this is a brand-new bleeding-edge venue with many unknowns, “not my job” is not an acceptable phrase.
  • Above all, must have a love of using performance, technology, and media to bring an amazing experience to our guests, and provide leadership and mentorship to our staff.
