Senior Technical Animator

As the games division of Bad Robot Productions (Lost, Cloverfield, Westworld, Star Wars, Star Trek), we at Bad Robot Games are on a mission to continually reinvent how stories are played.

We are a remote-first games company represented by a diverse team, which empowers us to make the kinds of games in which all players can see themselves. Working closely with our colleagues at Bad Robot Productions, our projects unite our extensive network of games, TV, and film industry talent to create original IPs, expansive worlds and tell new stories across all media platforms which are as fun to watch as they are to play.

Bad Robot Games is looking for a Senior Technical Animator who is passionate about bringing characters to life. You will work closely with the Animation, Design, and Art teams to build the infrastructure, processes, and pipeline necessary for the creation of high quality animation and character assets.

  • Work closely with the animation team and animation engineers to develop and debug animation systems that bring characters to life through responsive and fluid state machines, blend trees, IK usage, layering, tagging, and scripting. All within the framework of the game design needs and constraints.
  • Support the development of optimized workflows, custom tools, and pipelines that increase productivity and empower the animation team to work with quick iteration cycles and reduced production timelines.
  • Train internal and external animators on tools, pipelines, and animation implementation.

  • 5+ years game development experience, with one or more shipped titles as a Technical Artist/Technical Animator
  • Experienced in rigging, scripting via MEL/Python, physics, ragdoll, and cloth simulation
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate cross-discipline with teams such as animators, character artists, designers, and engineers
  • Experienced in the creation and maintenance of source-side and runtime character rigs and physics simulation implementation
  • Expertise in Maya (MotionBuilder a plus)

  • Extensive knowledge of Unreal Engine systems, including animation blueprints.
  • Knowledge and experience working with motion and performance capture pipelines, processes and data usage.
  • Experience with runtime procedural animation techniques
