Render Wrangler - Hybrid

Who are we hiring?
The Render Wrangler will be responsible for monitoring and optimizing all processes running on the render farm to ensure that established priorities are maintained and that deliverables meet production specifications and schedules. This role is responsible for monitoring the render farm’s functionality and efficiency, troubleshooting errors, assisting artists with submitting and managing their jobs, gathering metrics to support business decisions such as machine purchases or software procurement, and optimizing the way render manager and workers are configured. This candidate for this position should have production experience with the Deadline render queue manager, with python scripting for submission, automations, custom plugins, and reporting being very advantageous. Working knowledge of various DCC’s such as Nuke, Mistika, Cinema4D, Redshift, Mocha Pro, Davinci Resolve & Fusion, Maya, Adobe, and other common 2D and 3D applications is desired.

What will you do?

• Prioritize the render queue and appropriately allocate resources to ensure that rendering schedules are met in consultation with Supervisors, Artists, and the Production Management team.
• Monitor rendering quality and speeds by examining jobs for optimizations, make corrections when needed, and troubleshoot any potential problems; consult Supervisors and Leads concerning approaches, issues, and solutions.
• Monitor render farm performance to ensure there are no technical or machine problems which might interfere with a successful output. Respond to errors by diagnosing, identifying, and resolving, escalating as necessary.
• Actively engage in developing and refining the efficiencies of the rendering and data management pipelines through workflow structuring or scripting.
• Communicate with Production Management, Supervisors, and Studio on hardware and software procurement needs and other related issues.
• Actively monitor license usage to avoid render issues and to predict upcoming needs
• Assure that renders do not encounter issues due to hardware or software incompatibilities
• Work closely with the Studio Technology groups to identify hardware that requires updates or repairs


What do you need to succeed?

• Understanding of high-end post production/VFX processes and pipeline.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in post production with specific work experience in a render wrangler or TA capacity.
• Basic level understanding of Deadline plus working knowledge of 3D and compositing software and tools such as Mistika, PTGUI, After Effects, and various 360º/180º plugins and tools.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, act on feedback, and work under high pressure with tight deadlines while maintaining team cohesion.
