Who are we hiring?
MSG Ventures is looking for a Capture Media and Metadata Supervisor to join a groundbreaking advanced camera and immersive capture department based in Los Angeles. We are forging a new category of motion picture imaging, advanced entertainment, and experiential storytelling, which is redefining the future of entertainment. As the content delivery team for the MSG Sphere, we are creating world-class content at an unprecedented scale for the largest LED screens ever made. The Capture Media and Metadata Supervisor will be a force multiplier for the capture team, enabling scalability of additional photography and multiple capture units. They will be responsible for the integrity, accuracy and logistics of the transmission, duplication, and processing of on-set capture data (picture, sound, and more), as well as the integration and execution of workflows delivering smoothly into existing pipelines and frameworks of the principal capture units. This role will report directly to the Camera Systems and Media Storage Supervisor and work closely with them in providing leadership for the data side of the additional capture units and making tactical decisions responding to emerging conditions and data needs in the field and at home. As such, this role requires a deep knowledge of existing and emerging camera and advanced production workflows for professional motion picture imaging at the highest level. Ideal candidates will have experience shooting and producing high quality, immersive and/or giant screen content for networks, studios, immersive or experiential distribution with internal teams and external vendors working in tandem, ideally with a significant amount of quick-witted field experience.
What will you do?
• Contribute to MSG Ventures’ Capture data management strategy and roadmaps, reporting on the
• Support the design, development and execution of novel data storage and media management strategies.
• Advanced On-set media and workflow management (Digital Imaging Technician) supporting MSG Sphere production workflow specifications, checksumming, and the kind of QC and file verification required for working at unprecedented level of image fidelity.
• Proactively manage the maintenance, trouble shooting and upgrades of camera systems
• Oversee management, transfer, and digital data acquisition for Sphere shoots, as well as logging and metadata, shot information, technical notes, and color profiles
• Create, organize, and deliver data internally and externally to clients and vendors
• Collaborate with Post and Production groups to ensure needs are met in a timely fashion
• Manage company shuttle drives and OCM data, on local and remote storage.
• Stay on top of the latest developments in camera and production software and technology
to keep the department on the cutting edge.
• Guide and support on-site camera crews to assure correct workflow, systemization, camera settings, and data workflows
• Onboard, oversee, and manage field DITs to assure that footage coming back from remote locations meets Sphere’s needs
What do you need to succeed?
• Ability to train, manage and motivate a team of both in-house and job-dependent data specialists.
• 5+ years on-set DIT experience (or equivalent)
• 7+ years of experience in cinema production demanding digital asset management environments
• Strong understanding of codecs, digital deliverable formats, and extremely high bandwidth data rates.
• Experienced with coding, network connections, comfortable with SDKs, and API for camera tools
• Expert knowledge of SilverStack, RedCine-X Pro, Adobe Premiere, etc.
• Critical understanding of digital cinema production, workflow, cinematography, and post production processes
• Knowledge of 360 VR production, workflow, and software tools (e.g., Mistika, Nuke, Voysys)
• Must not be afraid to suggest improvements to existing systems or systems in development
• Excellent critical thinking, organization skills and attention to detail
• Degree in related field or equivalent experience, such as Film Production, Computer Science
