Senior Motion Designer

Support NASA missions! The Space Telescope Science Institute is looking for a Senior Motion Designer to join its team of science communication professionals in the Office of Public Outreach. The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) is a multi-mission science and flight operations center for NASA’s flagship observatories on the Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus in Baltimore, Maryland. Learn more about our missions.  This position can support hybrid work both onsite and from home. Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to our local market (MD, DE, VA, PA, DC & WV).

Your Role & Responsibilities

As a Senior Motion Designer in OPO, you will:

  • Collaborate with in-house writers, developers, educators, scientists, media specialists, and other designers to create a wide variety of astronomy-related materials for the public.
  • Design 2D and 3D animations that help viewers comprehend science concepts and information
  • Prepare storyboards and work iteratively with a project team, revising based on feedback from the team and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must be flexible and able to work well independently and in teams with diverse skills, experiences, working styles, preferences, and opinions.
  • Demonstrated ability in design, 3D animation, and 2D motion design to communicate complex information to a variety of audiences.
  • Advanced proficiency in 3D software using Houdini or Maya and Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to follow established standards, meet deadlines, proactively communicate the progress of projects, and maintain an archive of work.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 6+ years of professional experience. Preferably with exposure to STEM-related subject matters.

Substitution of additional relevant education and/or experience for stated qualifications may be considered.

This role is a full-time permanent position. Compensation is commensurate with education and experience. Our excellent benefits include:
