Instructor/Assistant Professor of Digital Art and Design - Full-time Term Appointment (Non-Tenure-Track)
Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris
State University (KCAD) in Grand Rapids, MI prepares artists and designers to
have impact through practice. Full-time, term appointment faculty members at
KCAD teach 18 semester credit hours per academic year, typically 3 courses each
fall and spring semester. As a KCAD faculty member, you will engage in three
kinds of professional development: continuous improvement in teaching
effectiveness, creative and/or scholarly contribution within your discipline,
and a college service commitment that includes committee work and community
engagement for the advancement of KCAD’s mission. You will assist with advising
students regarding their academic plan and progress as well as their
co-curricular and post-graduation opportunities.
Digital Art and Design Graduates
will be innovative artists and designers, well prepared to create rich media
experiences that combine imaging, animation, sound and interactivity.
This teaching assignment with the BFA in Digital
Art and Design program which includes curriculum in Digital Animation, Digital
Imaging, Digital 2D and 3D Media, Digital Multimedia, Visual Development, Interaction
Design, Motion Design, Sound Design, and Video.
This is a full-time, term (temporary), non-tenure-track faculty
appointment with the possibility of renewal. Courses are to be taught in
person on KCAD’s campus in Grand Rapids, MI. The candidate(s) selected for
the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment.
ESSSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Contribute to the college’s continuous
improvement
Keep regular posted office hours
Maintain effective communication with students
and colleagues
Work collaboratively with faculty, students and
staff throughout the college
Contribute to your discipline’s discourse(s)
Engage in scholarly, creative and professional
development
Engage in reflective self-assessment for
improvement, renewal and promotion
Teach an appropriate course load
Advise students for academic and
professional development
Participate in service to the
college and in shared governance
Prepare and distribute syllabi
according to college standards
Participate in academic functions
including commencement
Assess and evaluate student learning
and provide formative feedback
Provide leadership in ongoing
curriculum development, and related activities
Provide leadership in the research and specification of facilities and
equipment requirements needed to support the program
Ongoing participation in the
coordination of equipment and facilities checkout system, inventory and
physical space management
Demonstrate an understanding of diversity,
equity and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students,
faculty, staff and community members
Perform any other
duties assigned within the position classification area
Required Education:
Master’s degree in a related field to content
being taught
or:
Master’s degree in unrelated field and
additional minimum of 18 graduate credits in a field related to the content
being taught
or:
A bachelor’s degree in a related field to
content being taught, a minimum of six years of experience working in the field
of industry of the content area being taught, and a combination of:
?
Evidence of recognized
accomplishment in area being taught, including awards, bibliography of
publication referencing design or art work or scholarship or;
?
Evidence of scholarly/creative
accomplishment in terms of completed design work, patents, exhibitions,
presentations, publication, and juried recognition at the regional, national
and international level or;
?
Evidence of service to the field in
terms of memberships on committees or boards of professional organizations and
other contributions to the field
Candidates that
do not have a Master’s degree will be required to have a combination of
experience and accomplishment as outlined under the Required Education
section. This combination must be clearly documented in your curriculum
vitae/resume and application materials in order for the search committee to
determine if candidates meet the required qualifications. For example, in
order to determine if there is a minimum of six years of experience in the area
being taught, the curriculum vitae/resume must clearly list dates of employment
and all applicable experience should be listed. Evidence of recognized
accomplishment, scholarly/creative accomplishment and service in the field must
be detailed.
Required Work Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of a combination
of recent relevant professional commercial experience with industry standard
software, hardware and production processes.

Proficiency in industry standard
software, hardware and production processes.
Proficiency in industry standard
conceptual development for animation and design applications.
Ability to adapt to a variety of
software, tools, and techniques.
Ability to engage in evidence-based assessment.
Demonstrated commitment, experience and
understanding for diversity, equity and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications:
University or college-level teaching experience.
Experience with Adobe Suite, Modo, Maya, ZBrush,
and 3D Coat.
Experience with After Effects, Premiere, Cinema
4D, Audio software.
Understanding of accessibility and universal
design practices.
