Lecturer in Game Development and Production

Description

The Department of Computer Science is seeking an applicant to teach game/simulation-based software engineering project courses.

This position is offered at the Lecturer or Assistant Professor rank. Candidates with exceptional qualifications may be considered for appointment to the rank of Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor.

NOTE: This position can be part-time or full-time depending on a candidate's level of interest and commitment.

Start date: Summer/Fall 2023, or until the position is filled

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Teach team-based courses in game/simulation development (2D and/or 3D)
  • Grade, review and critique student team project-based work as well as technical guidance for the tools required in the course
  • Engage in advising and mentoring students in a 1 on 1 and team setting
  • Lecture and teach in classroom and/or lab settings

Qualifications / Competencies Required:

  • Bachelor's degree and 4+ years of experience, or a terminal degree, and knowledge within the game/simulation industry
  • Strong grasp of fundamentals of 2D and/or 3D game/simulation environment
  • Strong understanding of team dynamics, team organization, and team communication
  • Ability to provide quality feedback, practical work solutions, and instruction in 2D and/or 3D game/simulation development
  • Experience in collaborating with other disciplines beyond software engineering – designers, artists, marketing, etc.
  • Working knowledge of a broad range of game/simulation development tools
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications (but not required):

  • Bachelor's degree in science or engineering involving interactions between computer science and interactive digital entertainment
  • 6+ years of software industry experience including technical and/or production lead positions with the ability to apply the skills of the area of specialization
  • Development experience in PC games, mobile games and/or VR/AR, using middleware such as Unity or Unreal
  • Professional experience in programming and/or scripting languages such as C, C++, C#, or JavaScript, and visual scripting software such as Unreal Blueprints
  • Demonstrated experience working on game titles across various platforms and/or media
  • Teaching or other professional public speaking experience, including professional talks or panels at conferences, conventions, or events

Salary:

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and education.
