Senior Gameplay Programmer

Deck Nine Games is looking for a Senior Gameplay Programmer to join our engineering team. As an experienced engineer, your industry experience will be a vital piece of the puzzle as we grow and innovate modern storytelling games.

Located near Boulder, Colorado, Deck Nine Games is a BAFTA and VGA nominated developer of narrative adventure games. Always innovating, we're growing and are seeking highly qualified engineers to join our amazing team. Our engineering team are in creative positions that collaborate closely across disciplines with some of the most passionate developers in the world. 

Responsibilities:

  • Architect, plan and implement new systems, mechanics and tools
  • Own, maintain and be the source of knowledge for gameplay systems
  • Share experience with team and help provide mentorship for junior colleagues
  • Participate in and contribute to cross-discipline problem solving
  • Develop creative, high-quality games
  • Optimize and fix bugs in existing code
  • Contribute ideas towards all aspects of development
  • Write robust, maintainable code

About Deck Nine

Deck Nine Games is an independent game developer dedicated to crafting interactive story games that inspire, transform, and entertain players. Our passion is storytelling games. We love the relatable characters from a game like Life is Strange and the amazing action storytelling from games like The Last of Us. 

Our first game, Life is Strange: Before the Storm is loved by fans and has won multiple awards, including Game of Year and was nominated for both a VGA and a BAFTA. The studio is 90+ people and is in sunny Westminster, Colorado at the base of the Rocky Mountains. The studio is working on an unannounced story adventure game and is growing additional teams for more projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Math, or equivalent
  • 4+ years of relevant engineering experience in the game industry
  • Previous Unreal Engine experience
  • Previous combat gameplay experience
  • Strong 3D math skills
  • Expert in C/C++
  • Be a driven, motivated personality that wants to make great games
  • A passion for creating engaging combat and gameplay systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Multiple shipped titles
  • AAA games experience
  • Experience with Unreal Engine’s Gameplay Ability System

The posted salary range is a good faith estimate of what the starting salary may be for the position at the time of posting. Pay may be more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary and title offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, budget, internal salary equity considerations, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.

Salary Range: $100,000 - $130,000, per year
