Assistant Professor - Gaming Design eSports

Description

Assistant Professor - Visual Communications: Gaming Design eSports - #077291

The Visual Communications Department (VIS) at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications is seeking an Interactive Game Designer to join our team as a fulltime tenure-track Assistant Professor.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in game design. Expertise in character design and 3D game design focused on player-centered design solutions with strong visual direction and interaction design preferred.

This position is the perfect opportunity for an experienced interactive designer who is interested in teaching the next generation of visual communicators how to create design experiences and develop characters for a player driven perspective. Tenure-track professors are expected to pursue activities that will position them as a well-known expert in their field. This position has a start date of August 2024.

Primary teaching responsibilities include courses required of all Visual Communications majors and the Esports program with students on the Game Experience and Design track as well as other topics that reflect evolving practices in the industry. The person in this role will also have the opportunity to teach and/or develop elective courses based on their expertise/background. The person in this role will teach five courses per academic year.

The successful candidate will be joining the Visual Communications department, which is regarded as one of the best in the nation. The department’s faculty and staff members prepare future leaders in visual communications industries — primarily photography, cinematography, interactive design, and immersive experiences — by introducing students to practices and systems of production, distribution and exhibition, and their resulting impact on the world. The position requires a variety of service duties, including academic and career advising; department, school and university committee service; curriculum development; and community/industry outreach.
