Description
Instructor
or Lecturer, Games and Interactive Media
The Nicholson School of Communication and Media (NSCM) in the
College of Sciences at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites
applications for an instructor or lecturer position in the Games and
Interactive Media program. This is a nine-month, non-tenure-track appointment.
The position is anticipated to begin in January 2024.
The successful candidate will contribute to the Games and
Interactive Media mission by teaching primarily game art-related coursework,
with a focus on 3D Modeling and related approaches. Based on the current
workload policy, the teaching load for each position will be four courses per
semester. The selected candidate will also be expected to participate in school
and university service, including committee work.
Minimum Qualifications:
A master's degree (for an instructor) or a terminal degree (for a
lecturer) in an appropriate discipline from an accredited institution by the
start of employment. Candidates who hold a bachelor's degree may be considered
for an instructor position only if they can document ten years or more of
professional experience within the games and interactive media industry.
Candidates must have some teaching experience, formal or informal (e.g.,
tutoring, holding workshops, creating tutorial videos, etc.).
Successful applicants must be proficient in Maya (3D Modeling
software).
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with
teaching 3D Modeling or who have professional paid experience in a position
that includes using 3D Modeling software. A strong emphasis is placed on
candidates who not only possess the ability to teach additional courses within
the game design track, including areas such as Digital Sculpting, Photoshop,
and game art fundamentals, but who also demonstrate expertise in creating
game-ready 3D assets through industry-standard workflows and practices. This
includes a deep understanding of optimizing models for real-time rendering, UV
mapping, texture baking, and other processes crucial for producing high-quality
assets for game environments.
In addition, candidates who can offer coursework related to Game
and Digital Art at the Foundations and fundamentals areas will be given extra
consideration. We value individuals who can contribute holistically to our game
design program and inspire students to excel in both the creative and technical
aspects of 3D modeling and game development.
The Games and Interactive Media program is a large and growing top
10-ranked game design program (#6, according to Princeton Review). The program
is part of the Nicholson School of Communication and Media, which has other
programs in the areas of Communication, Film and Mass media, and industry game
development (FIEA) and is located at UCF Downtown.
