Role Summary

The VFX Producer is responsible for managing and tracking the VFX shot production from bidding through final delivery. S/he are required to manage all VFX aspects of a show, from the initial visual effects breakdown and bidding process, planning and scheduling, tracking progress of all vendors to managing their needs from the production including access to the VFX Sup for approvals. This position reports to and works closely with the Producer of the show, and personally oversees approximately two thirds of the production budget.

In addition to traditional VFX Producer duties, the VFX Producer will be responsible for the thorough capture of learnings from this first production.

Specific Functions/Activities Summary

  • Schedule and manage pre-visualization and VFX shot production. 
  • Bidding Phase: Prepare bidding packages (scripts, storyboards, and pre-vis) with VFX Supervisor and Producer / Ensure NDA’s are signed by all vendors and facilities / Support vendor bidding process by getting all questions answered / Compile bids and prepare evaluations of bids with VFX Supervisor
  • Award Phase: Contribute to contract process by ensuring scope of work, budget and schedule align/ manage all other requests between MSG & DEP & vendor to launch work relationship smoothly
  • Post Production Phase: Ensure shots are turned over per contracts / Liaise with editorial and track shots in and out of their workflow / Track day-to-day progress of VFX Shots / Generate reports to the Producer on progress of VFX shot production / Track schedule milestones and budgets, keeping scope, schedule and budget closely aligned / Track changes in creative / Negotiate change orders with VFX Supervisor and Producer /  Manage day-to-day any resources for any in-house shot production. 
  • Throughout production: Oversee vendor/client correspondence and acts as primary liaison to the production / Supports VFX Supervisor in client reviews and facilitates feedback to client / Schedule calls & meetings / Take, disseminate and track creative & technical notes internally and with vendors / Identifies potential production problems and works with Producer and VFX Supervisor to ensure creative decisions can be completed within budget and on schedule / Work with Production Accountant to manage all aspects of show budget, including accurate projections, and weekly EFC reporting
  • Production bible creation: Responsible for the capture of learnings into a complete on-line production bible, which should include documentation of all approaches, outcomes and final takeaways of creating the show / Archival of all production templates, forms, and all versions of schedules and cost reports and any other materials created to produce this show.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience in production at a large studio and/or production company with specific experience in VFX/Digital production and the creation of special format media
  • Must be able to work independently and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to build up rapport and strong relationships with vendors. 
  • Attention to detail and constantly looking for ways to improve operational efficiencies
  • Proficient user of resources management tools and Excel, Filemaker Pro, and Shotgun. 
  • Proactivity and passionate concern for quality
  • Bachelor’s degree in film, art, communications or related field
  • Demonstrated organizational, project management and leadership skills 
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a high pressure environment
