Who are we hiring?
The Playback Operator role will be joining the growing MSG Sphere team in Sphere Studios based in Burbank, California. This role will provide daily media server programming in Sphere Studios for reviewing video content of various internal departments. This key position will be used for training and development of our future Sphere Studios needs and will be integral to the daily operations of the studio. The candidate will work with various departments to ensure on-time review sessions and VIP tours.
What will you do?
• Coordinate media preparation and loading, program and operate playback sessions
• Work closely with external & internal partners to ensure data paths and efficient communication
across hardware solutions
• Optimize playback hardware for the Sphere Studio’s high performance needs
• Work with the various departments to optimize the daily workflow of playback hardware and software
• Provide playback services on high profile reviews with executives, creatives, internal and external
• Apply critical thinking and new learnings towards the betterment of Sphere Studios
What do you need to succeed?
• Degree in engineering or equivalent work experience
• 5+ years of previous experience as a Playback Operator or similar role.
• 5+ years live production experience.
• Experience with large format multi-processor systems is a must.
• Must have operational and engineering experience with 7thSense Media Servers – experience with
Disguise, Hippo, or Pandora is a preferred
• Experience with LED screens and processing systems
• Medialon show control programming experience
• Experience working with large file systems and media management
• Experience and working knowledge of codecs and image sequences – DPX, .7th
, ProRes, DNx, Targa
• Knowledge of video routing systems, broadcast solutions, and AV IT networking
• A confident, professional, and persuasive communication style with senior leaders and team members
• A passion for creative problem-solving and strategic thinking
• Ability to remain flexible and calm in high-pressure situations
