Sr Technical Director, Studio Pipeline

GENERAL SUMMARY
The Senior Pipeline TD in Production Technology will team with Engineers and Technical Directors to design, develop, and deploy custom software tools that extend the use of our ShotGrid-based production tracking system.  As a member of the Studio Pipeline team, this position will work directly with artists, coordinators and managers in all production departments including Production Management, Puppet and Set Fabrication, Stage/Camera, Stage and Replacement Animation, Story/Editorial, VFX, and Marketing/Media & Archive Services.  In addition to working individually and with a sprint team, this position will help establish technical direction and standard practices.


JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Extend and integrate the use of Autodesk ShotGrid and other database systems to meet production needs, including both desktop-native and browser-hosted applications and plugins.
  • Work both independently and cooperatively with Engineers and Technical Directors to extend existing tools, develop new features, and design new applications.
  • Work with non-technical end users to help define requirements for new tools and pipeline processes to solve production problems.
  • Develop test plans and roll out new ShotGrid based workflows and tools, and work with end users to improve the usability of these tools.
  • Work with a sprint team: scope and bid tickets, participate in launch and review meetings, collaborate with product owners and production customers to prioritize work, communicate progress, and support team members with technical guidance.
  • Follow the processes and procedures of the software development life cycle, build and release system, documentation and testing standards used in Production Technology.
  • Participate in research and development to implement 3rd party solutions when available and/or help design and build prototypes for next generation systems.
  • Support existing tools via bug fixes and version updates.
  • Support applications through documentation, training, and handling questions.
  • Support users on MacOS and Linux.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven track record delivering complex technical solutions in a production environment.
  • 4+ years of experience developing custom tools and workflows with ShotGrid in an animation or VFX studio environment, including SG ActionMenuItems and shotgun event daemon plugins
  • Strong experience with code development with Python
  • Experience with aspects of full stack web development using technologies such as JavaScript, Typescript, Django, Flask, Vue, React, Node.js, and RESTful API’s.
  • Experience with ShotGrid’s Python and REST APIs, native UI, and automation strategies.
  • Experience developing on Linux or Mac platforms.
  • Experience interacting directly with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, preferred.
  • Experience with SDLC concepts and methodologies, including build/release via CI/CD, version control with Git / GitLab, automation with GitLab runners, TDD.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban.
  • Experience with IntelliJ products, preferred.
  • Familiarity building, running, managing and monitoring services on a Linux container platform such as Docker/Kubernetes – a plus.
  • Experience with ShotGrid Toolkit – a plus.
  • Experience with Rust, C++, (Py)Qt/PySide2 – a plus.
