This past May, the world’s first full-time Virtual Reality Development department, graduated its inaugural class. These graduates are at the forefront of this emerging technology, creating lifelike experiences that are already changing the face of health care, architecture, job training, entertainment, and much more. Ringling College seeks to expand its roster of inspiring faculty to teach students the basics of this new technology, and push them to create groundbreaking artwork and experiences in a medium that is evolving every day. The Virtual Reality BFA is the first of its kind and is well supported with financial backing. Graduates from Ringling College have gone on to work for immersive media companies such as Meta, Apple, Imerza, AMGEN, Sharecare, General Motors, and many more

Facilities: Ringling College’s Computer has facilities designed to replicate a professional studio environment, and boasts the highest-end, state-of-the-art computer laboratories and dedicated distributed hardware for lighting builds and derived data. Full-time Institutional Technology staff support the Department.

The Position: The VRD Department is seeking an Immersive Media Designer with Unreal Engine and asset creation experience to join a dedicated faculty teaching Virtual Reality Development. The primary responsibility of this position will focus on providing quality instruction, teaching students immersive media design techniques and visual scripting to create interactive projects.

Included among the duties and responsibilities, this position requires expertise in immersive media pipeline, directed research and analysis, and scripting events in UE4/UE5. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching three courses or nine credits per semester. Assignments include teaching introductory through advanced courses in creating interactive experiences and integration of aesthetic elements into the game engine. Ongoing commitment to creative work/research in the profession is expected. Active participation with faculty, department, and college service required.

This is a full-time appointment with benefits. The salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The anticipated start date is August 2023. (Minimum Qualifications) Include evidence of.

  • A Master’s degree in Art, Game Design, or a related field, OR a 4-year professional degree in art or design and equivalent professional experience, training and expertise with an appropriate record of achievement in the field.
  • Experience with creating VR/AR/MR interactive projects.
  • 4+ years of experience as an Immersive Media Designer, content creator, or developer
  • Ability to teach introductory through advanced classes in-game and immersive media.
  • Experience with visual scripting.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine 4/5.
  • Experience with 3D modeling, animation, texturing creation, and familiarity with physically based rendering (PBR) standards.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.

(Preferred Qualifications) Include evidence of:

  • A terminal degree in an appropriate discipline.
  • Experience designing user experiences and human centered design approaches.
  • Understanding of programming techniques and computational thinking.
  • Experience with Autodesk Maya, Substance Suite, ZBrush, and other related digital content creation tools.
  • Experience with serious games, architecture, simulation, medical, education, product visualization, virtual training, mobile application development, tools development, performance monitoring, entertainment gaming, or other related fields.
  • Scripting and/or programming experience is a plus but not required (e.g. Python, Java, C++, C#, Unreal Blueprint or other comparable object-oriented languages).
