About Image Engine

Image Engine creates world-class visual effects for feature films

Well known for our work on Neill Blomkamp’s District 9, we have gone on to create numerous incredible creatures, epic environments and extraordinary digital effects for a broad range of feature films.

Since opening the studio in 1995, we have grown steadily – handling an expanded scope of work in-house, and managing our first multi-vendor production for Elysium in 2013.

We are an independently owned and operated company, led by a team of creative and passionate individuals who are committed to furthering the art of visual storytelling, and helping our exceptionally talented crew to push the boundaries of artistic and technical achievement at the studio.

We are involved from the very first stages of production, collaborating closely with our filmmaker clients to provide concept designs, pre-visualization, supervision and visual effects production; and offer a full range of visual effects services from computer-generated animation and compositing, to explosive volumetric digital effects.

R&D is central to our philosophy of driving creativity through innovation, with a focus on continually evolving our robust production pipelines and pioneering in the area of proprietary software development – simply put, placing awesome new tools in the hands of our artists.

In the past few years, Image Engine has worked on projects including the Academy Award nominated District 9, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, The Thing, Battleship, Zero Dark Thirty, R.I.P.D., Elysium and Lone Survivor. Click here to find out what’s currently in production.

We are based in Vancouver, BC, North America’s third largest film production centre – in the same time zone as Los Angeles.
