UI/UX Senior Software Engineer

Description

Mental Canvas, Inc. is a computer graphics technology startup.  Our mission is to enhance visual communication by computers by fundamentally elevating the way people draw.  We’re building a team that thinks creatively and embraces innovation.

Mental Canvas is a transformative software platform that combines the ease and fluidity of conventional 2D sketching with expansive capabilities. For visual thinkers who sketch to explore new ideas, communicate new concepts, create new knowledge, or design new products, the Mental Canvas authoring system picks up where pencil and paper leave off. The content, or spatial drawings™ created using Mental Canvas represents a new interactive media type for use in journalism, books, movies, games and more. Similar to what the word processor has done for text, or Photoshop has done for photography, Mental Canvas reimagines the sketch, imbuing it with entirely new capabilities, bringing it fully into the computer age.

Responsibilities:

Design, prototype, and test novel user interfaces in the service of further developing the Mental Canvas software platform.

Requirements:

  • Expertise at the intersection of human-computer interaction (HCI) and computer graphics, with a demonstrated interest in creative applications.
  • Interest in advancing sketching as a graphical media type, with a particular focus on pen-and-touch based interfaces.
  • Proven track record in novel UX/UI design and development as demonstrated through research publications, product development, and/or patents.

Basic Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Strong R&D expertise
  • Experience translating new interfaces from R&D to products
  • 5+ years software development experience in C#, JavaScript, or C++
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-directed, analytical, highly responsible and a team player

Opportunity to play a key role in shaping and further developing the Mental Canvas platform alongside leading graphics researchers and practitioners.

Compensation package includes base salary, full benefits package, and stock options.
